I have spent a few sessions there and have found many interesting things especially the pages dedicated to the V-Fets, but have also found it to be rather incomplete like so many other of these sites are, they list a bunch of models but when you try to click on it to see more there is nothing there and it usually right after you get interested in something and want to see all the different models!!!!! Still pretty cool for free stuff on the web

Thevintageknob is updated regularily ; the "update" button on the main page lists what's planned ; on-request posts are also possible.

As for incompleteness, everything that is presently online and everything that is announced (ie. not yet hyperlinked) put together represents less than 10% of what I can post... I just need more time and, mostly, a little more feedback from the visitors. It may sound silly but it is important to me. In other words... use the eMail and you shall be rewarded ;-)

Great site you have there ! I regularly visit for the Esotec info. One of these days I will send a pic mine. I do have to say the other pics of Esotec gear from the states look rather sad. While the others from around the world looks simply amazing.

I would love to see more Accuphase info. I dig any of the great gear that was not available to us poor schlubs in the states.

Us VFET (1978-1982 Yamaha & Sony) folks like his VFET thread, as well. Probably more VFET info here than any other single spot I've seen.

(Duke Ellington is one of my favorite musicians!)
I don't have much on Accuphase but the very first models, a couple of the monsters amps from the late 1980s and all the CD drives using Sony's die-cast optical block & base... I might unearth more, though, in the coming months. But Accuphase in Japan has its own little historical rewind which is perfect for quick reference with all models listed along the compleat specs and a basic image ; Many of their units are very very easy to find at hifi-do (http://www.hifido.co.jp/indexe.html), most of the time with fair to small pricetags...
As for photography, it is true that the US photographs are often (not always but often) a little harshly lit: more efficient than "poetic" or lyrical, the opposite of the japanese equivalents.

Please all of you let me know if there are specific units you'd like to see online or any other feature(s) you'd like to find on thevintageknob!

Hi Axel:

Let me join the others in welcoming you to AK. Great forum and great folks.

I see you've updated the VFET entries for Yamaha. I attempted to register my B-2 amps some months ago, but it would not take the info. Now I see that there is no registration for them (like there is for the B-1). I have four (4) B-2 amps that I would like to register. Let me know when you might reopen the registration for B-2 amps as I would like to stay in touch with others who have them. Will be doing some mods on my B-2 to get rid of the useless input controls and mutltiple speaker outputs as well as upgrading the speaker terminals.

I have the owner's and service manuals for the B-2 as well as the full schematic in electronic format if that is any use to your site.

V-FET register

Glenn,

I closed the V-Fet register because that was way too much work for my busy schedule... I have kept the register files, of course, but they are now offline. Also, many people didn't send the serial numbers of their units and that made the registering process pretty much pointless.
I might re-open it someday but not right now ; the same goes for the Esotec and pre-Esprit/ESPRIT registers.

Please let us know if your upcoming mods make a significant change in the sound of these wonderful amps!
If you could send the schematic and user's manual by eMail, I'd place them on the B-2 page as downloads, with due repects paid, of course. How much kB do they "weigh"?

Hi Axel - I also listen to NS-1000M. However, I could not find the schematics you mention in the listing for them. Some pictures of frequency response and cuts of the drivers, etc., but no schematics. Would appreciate a schematic of the crossover, if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I used the term "schematic" in a generic way. I don't have that for the 1000's crossover and neither the US, French or German 1974/75 literature shows it... sorry

I wish I had a pair of NS-1000, though - they must be heavenly with the B-2! Top of the pops to my ears, along with the Quad ESL57.
