Where does the Model 33 fit in the pantheon of Marantz preamps? How is it sound-wise, and how does it compare to its 7T predecessor?

The Model 33 is a very nice pre-amp. I bought mine to be used with a Model 32 amplifier. I also use it with a Model 16.
While the 7T has a very smooth and velvety sound (tube like?) the 33 might be harder sounding (some say the early SS equipment has a grainy sound?) but the controls seem to have a wider range of adjustment.
When I use it with the 32 it's a fine match, however when I use it with the 16 all good things happen. Perhaps this says more about the amplifier than the pre-amp.
