Thoughts on the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame?

Pretty eclectic line-up. I'd be inclined to vote for Albert King but since it's the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame I guess I'd go with Deep Purple.

Uh - uh - uh.....uh-uh..uh-uh :guitar:

What budding guitar player doesn't learn that riff?

I'm surprised Deep Purple aren't already in there... at the end of the day, it is the Hall of Fame, and they've got the most famous riff of all time, period.

This could be a new thread. Most famous riff of all time? I might argue that the most famous riff of all time is from the Stones' Satisfaction.

There's simply no contest. Chances are the first riff any new guitarist attempts to learn is Smoke on the Water.

There are exceptions, but no single one is as popular.

You are right. All three of my kids played that song in 6th grade band.

Word came down a couple of months ago that Rush finally made it in. Being typical Rush, they said thank you, but didn't make a big deal out of it. Perhaps they know what a joke the R&R hall of fame is?

Right...it is a joke. It's great publicity for some of these "has-beens", but it's all marketing and PR to help pay for that building.

:thumbsdn:

Whenever someone mentions the RnR HoF I always think of Penn & Teller on a late night show saying (It was Penn doing the talking of course) they will boycott it until The Residents are accepted.

Don't get me started, here's what I said about that matter (one post at least), using quotes from members of Rush:

The official statement is hilarious because, if you can at all read between the lines, they are simply saying they don't care (but they are not going to say that in the official statement at least) but are happy for the fans of them who do. (So, as to not slight those fans, they don't call the RnRHoS a joke or say they don't care like they have been for years. "Nice Canadian boys" for sure). They also don't want to offend all their colleagues (like members of Metallica) who have been raising noise about why they are not in the Hall, as well as some industry insiders and fans who have been petitioning for them to get in for years, now that they are actually nominated. So they choose diplomacy and magnanimity over rebellious rejection. I can respect that; I don't know what I would of done if I was them.

I've been within throwing distance of the RnRHoS twice now in the last few years (one being within the last month) and didn't deign to enter. You'd have to pay me (a lot) actually to suffer that institution in fact. This will not change when/if Rush does get in; in fact I will only be more adamant about staying outside that garish epitome of vulgar commercialization.
