Thoughts on these speakers?

For a small 2-way speaker I personally prefer a 6.5" mid-woofer... minimum.

I have two pair of Monitor 40's which appear similar but have two 5.25" woofers and are significantly larger. They are OK in a small room but have limited bass. I like them fine in an HT setup but wasn't so fond of them for music (I now use a separate 2-channel for music). I really should drag out the second pair and test them again in a different environment. I remember looking at Polk's eBay store a while back and found good deals.

I'm looking at their eBay store now (Polk Audio Direct), and the Monitor 40's have sure gone up! I think mine were like $100 a pair new.

I don't know those particular speakers but in general Polk makes good mid-fi speakers. If you are buying them new, give them a try and return them if you are not satisfied.

Pass on 'em. They sound boxy and muddy, even for the size. Not bad if you need cheap surrounds for a budget home theater, but they won't really cut the mustard for music. For just a few dollars more, you can get the TSi100's, which are leaps and bounds better than the T15. If you gotta stay <$100, take a listen to Micca MB42X's or Dayton B652's, or any number of used options from Klipsch, Polk, NHT, maybe even B&W or Advent if you're really lucky.

They are about what you might expect for a $60 pair of big box store speakers. They hit a low price point.
Honestly, follow the guidance of a few other posters - increase your budget to $150 or so and you can get something MUCH better.

I'd also check Barter Town here (gotta be a subscriber first, though). A pair of ADS L400's just sold that I'd take over those Polks any day. For my use and budget, I go used, especially with speakers. The depreciation is huge on them, and other than physical condition of cabinets and drivers and possibly caps in the crossovers, there's not much to go wrong with them (I've never had to replace a crossover cap, BTW).

I see you are in new York city. I just looked on craigslist for NYC and there are a lot of speakers that are much better than the ones you are thinking about.
