Todays METAL playlist

Very cool. I hope you like them. They tend towards being quite progressive, with their earlier stuff shifting back and forth from death metal to near chamber music. Very well done I think.

Yeah, it's not half bad. The vocals are not my prime pick, but so few are. Music is pretty wonderful, though. I'll have to dig around into their lter work as well:yes:.

Been a fan of High on Fire for quite a while. Since '02 or '03. Finally got to see them open for Opeth (how's that for a coincidence?) in Atlanta at Center Stage in '08. Maybe it was the acoustics or sound engineer, but their sound didn't seem like it worked well live. I knew all the songs, but they still kinda blended together into one big noise. Still, very cool to see them perform. As a three-piece they work their asses off to get that sound.

That's my fear in seeing them live, but I how the sound is at least pretty good, though I don't expect studio quality. I have no doubts about their playing, based on the music videos, and other resources they are really skilled at playing. I think it's all based on venue, i'm seeing them at Headliners music hall in louisville which has many bands through it, and isn't a huge arena, so i'm hoping it's better than my last concert. Either way, i'll report back after the 29 of this month.

Metallica ~ Creaping Death "Garage Days Revisited" EP

1984 Music For Nations

This one has definately been used and sounds it. I bought this new back in '84.

I've found a lot of my P.R.C.'s from back in the day(even my old car carry case) and will be giving them a listen as I just got a new to me deck.

dude, cassettes!, i'd love to find some metal cassettes, but they are few and far between, seems most people bought the lp or cd. Way cool:thmbsp:

I just picked up;
High on Fire - Snakes for the divine;

I'm hoping it's as good as "death is this communion", and wouldn't be surprised if it is, i'll have to report back on this as well, after I listena couple times through:rockon:

oh and do yourselfs a favor , skip any live high on fire show! saw them a few times , all bad. hung out with matt pike(sp?) (singer/guitarist) and he totally ruined the band for me. TOTALLY!! he was such jackass. what a disappointment

The cans are AKG 601's. Gonna pull out some more old tapes when I get home tonight. :music:

Ahh...cool. :thmbsp:

Wolf - Ravenous

In the mood for some kick ass, in-your-face, fast paced, old school sounding metal (but without the horrid quality of many 80's metal releases) with catchy hooks, monster riffs, and cheesy/fun lyrics? Put this one on and melt your face off! :D

Sounding great via my Grado 225i's cans and M-Stage amp. :music:

The METAL thread is back!

The Sword ~ Gods of the Earth

Can't remember if this band has shown up in the thread yet.

Kick-ass band! Lots of great guitar hooks!

Well, the ticket was cheap, I need something to do. If it goes poorly, i'm not out much, and a month later I can wash the bad taste out with some Rush!. They have a couple of local (to louisville) bands that seem interesting, so it'll be neat to hear them.

The METAL thread is back!

Funny, I was just going to post today:scratch2:

I think someone has brought them up, but not that release. I think "age of winter" was posted.

High on fire - Snakes for the divine

Been listening to this a lot recently, mixed thoughts on it. For one, it is a great album, all-around a good listen. Heavy guitar, insane drums, and audible bass (:D). Songs are epic, have a sense of scale, etc. However, compared to "death is this communion (from now on DITC)", it's just not as good. Much of the greatness of "Ditc" was from the range and flare of the music, which "snakes" doesn't have as much of. I also perfered the production on DITC, over "snakes", which I attribute to Jack Endino being a awesome producer.

Overall, awesome if you like this type of music, but a little pale comparitively. May be somewhat unfair, as "DITC" is one of my new favorite albums.

Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death

Went to see these guys at DTE in Detroit last night. Awesome. Been wanting to see them since the early 80's and finally made it. Even better is I got to bring my 2 daughters to their 1st concert ever. lol Maiden. The 15 yr old took a little time but i think by the end she enjoyed the experience (not her kind of music). My 12yr old was pumped when we told her and had a blast. My little metalhead :music:

Good sir, I am extremely envious:thmbsp:. I would love it if they came around here and I could afford it. I looked up a recent concert video, and those guys are still at the top of the game. Their live material is also really great, and I usually perfer studio work.

I have said this before, I love Dance of death, but that cover:no:.

LOL by FAR their worst cover. I've heard all their stuff but really haven't "listened" to alot of their recent stuff. I really enjoyed the show so figure i owe it to myself to listen to their latest stuff, if you know what i mean. I know what you mean about the affording part, times have been tuff lately but my neighbour/friend had 8 tickets and only 4 takers. With the new paperless tickets makes it very hard to sell so he offered them for free. I don't like doing that so I'll kick back some cash when i can but for now....

I can wash the bad taste out with some Rush!.

Lol, you don't know how many times I listen to, well, not Rush material, and think: That was fine, but it's time for some REAL music and I put Rush on! :music: :D

Yea, this thread has not gone away since I resurrected it back in Aug. after 3 months of no posts:

(Wow...look at my sad little metal collection back then...:o)

And: It shall not fade into oblivion as long as my veins pump blood and body draws breath!!! :bat:

(Hows that for some overblown metalesque type lyrics/hyperbole? :D Just wait until the weather turns cold though...:naughty:)

I must check these guys out.

How cool! I love seeing parents and children together at Rush shows...music can create a special bond that spans generations.

They haven't come to St. Louis in over 5 years and that was a bit before I was really into them enough to see them (should of listened to my gf who wanted to go ). We thought about going to see them this summer, but the closest show was in Chicago and I tend to dislike visiting big cities (getting around in them not knowing where in the hell you are). Besides 3 Rush concerts (2 out of town) is quite enough for this summer at least!

Yea they are still playing well and are one of the few bands whose live material is as good or better (in a different way) than their studio material. Another epic band to see live. Ah well, maybe some other time.

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
61C2J6PV96L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

This is the album that really got me into IM. Before I thought they were kind of a cheesy hair metal band (I like hair metal...but I don't take it seriously or anything, it's just fun every so often) and didn't have much substance or playing ability (I had only "heard" them in the background, the hits). Boy was I wrong! Still one of my favorite IM albums.

Death - Scream Bloody Gore

Lovely title, don't you think?

I believe I have this in the original combat records cd release, since it lacks any bonus tracks or re-release/reissue stuff (could be wrong:dunno:). Good album, rough, brutal, and hard for most of the populous to listen to:D. Clearly one of the first death-metal albums, or a really early one. Nothing pleasent here, what with songs like "Regurgitated Guts", "Zombie Ritual", and "Infernal Death". However, as good as this is, which, if you can stand the form, it is, I really perfer death's later work, when they delved into progressive metal, and technical death metal...I think the later songs are more varied and harmonic, without losing the absolute killer edge this genre of music allows. The guitar is heavy, but carries a tune well enough. Vocals are hard to understand (and read; the linear notes cd print is unreadable), but violently harsh. The drums are average metal drums, visceral, and fast....but not quite double-bass machine gun levels, nice change of pace. For this type of album, everything is right, it's downright relentless.

I like the quote wikipedia has for this album, from "Metal Force"

By the way, that early Megadeth rocks, and Alice in Chains is totally metal:rockon:

EDIT; thought i'd add my current favorite track Denial of life, that little fret-board flair that starts at 50 seconds in is killer:guitar:

right on

Slaughter - Stick It to Ya (Remaster/Bonus Tracks)

Loved this cover as a 12 year old...still do. :naughty:

Cheesy hair/glam metal at it's best: Up all night, sleep all day! :nutz:

Woah, we've got another Slayer fan on AK?

I've been a huge Slayer fan since I was a kid. My old band actually used to cover Raining Blood for a little while, and it was funny to see so many fights break out during it, especially when we played with Hatebreed in 2002.

Becoming a big fan of Slayer....probably the best example of a metal band that has never wavered from their initial intensity and sound. The more I listen, the more I like. "Seasons in the Abyss" and "South of Heaven" are two of the greatest metal songs of all time.
