Mark Knopfler - The Princess Bride

Great movie and great soundtrack. Loved both since I was a kid.

Oh, my. Ten pages before someone mentions Mark Knopfler?!? Many, of course, associate him with Dire Straights, but he has actually had an illustrious career writing and performing soundtracks. Exceptionally talented individual.

If you liked his work on Princess Bride, definitely get the soundtrack for Cal. I actually used this music at my wedding in lieu of more traditional pieces. Just beautiful. FWIW, I've seen the album appear on various audiophile kinda lists of the best 50 or 100 albums ever.

I can also vouch for the soundtrack for Local Hero. Over half the tracks on it are just exceptional works. (Whistle Tune, ?, I think it's called, and the song following, for instance.)

On Last Exit to Brooklyn, I only liked one song, but it was a doozy. Golden Heart.

I believe he's done a number of other soundtracks, but these are the only ones I know (in addition to The Princess Bride).
