Today's "White Trash Party" Playlist

World of Hurt...I get it

Abso-smurfly! That's one of those where at first I'm thinking "God, this guy can't be serious" and ended up loving the way it sounds now.

Since this thread is all over the place, and I love that about it, here's one all those on-the-fencers should hear by DBT.

The song is about Patterson's great uncle. Helluva great story, and some of the best lyrics I've heard in years.

Kris and Mystic, give them a chance. First time around, didn't grab me either.

James,

I picked up lossless copies of Alabama Ass Whuppin' (2000) and Southern Rock Opera (2001). Just started up Southern Rock Opera and, three tracks through this ("72" just finished), I love it. Sure, I heard the Son Volt thing, some in the vocal manner, some in the (especially rhythm) geetar, but I'm hearing s.t. much darker, a southern gothic element that is @ once messy and menacing. It's kinda like you spin this record and something dark & unseeable eneters the room. It's a pretty cool thing. Can't wait to hear the next 17 numbers, after which I'll be popping on the "live" album (Alabama Ass Whuppin'). Yee-ha! (my -- lame -- written attempt @ the "Rebel Yell")

Thank you, Today's White Trash Party Playlist thread, for introducing me to Drive-By Truckers.

Quick question re: DBT: which member has the clear, baritone "Farrar-like" voice, and which member has the low 'n' raspy voice?

Drive-By Truckers
Southern Rock Opera
(Lost Highway, 2001)

Not a "party", but it is what I am listening to @ this moment.
