Anyone out there know what type of bulb this is? Its from a late 70's Toshiba tuner.
Model ST 335. Its very small, about 1/4" wide.20180711_195808.jpg

I have to re-bulb mine now too. How did you get the thing out ? From the back or take off the front ? Only have one out but might as well do both.

First time it seems like a bit of a daunting task but it's not at all difficult. I'm assuming you're talking about the bulbs in the back of the tuner scale.
Yes, you need to access it from the front. Take off all the knobs. Sometimes they are really hard to take off. I use a strong string and wrap them from the back and than pull hard. After that, there are 3 or 4 nuts on some of the knob shafts that need to be removed. There are also a couple of screws at the top and bottom of the face plate of the unit that need to be removed.
Now the face should come off with ease. You will see the tuner pointer exposed but the bulbs are under another dark plastic plate that displays the tuner scale. Six more screws need to be removed from it. Move the dial pointer using the tuner dial knob to get it out of your way as you need. This plastic plate is glued at the bottom with soft pliable glue. Remove it slowly and cautiously as not to crack the plastic. Eventuality it will come lose and you will be able to slide it out of one side or other by position the needle dial to the oposite side. Now you will have good access to the 4 to 5 bulbs. After put it back together in reverse order.
I hope this helps.

Thank you Mike, I was afraid that was how it was gonna' be. The tuning knob has resisted all efforts so far. It really looks like the bulbs should come out the back. Not so. Is yours a first edition or second ? I have the whole set (collect 'em all !) but mine are MKII series. No meters, just a light show.

Its cool that you have them all. Wish I had the room to do the same. I fix, play with them and than sell them to make room, these units sell like hotcakes. People love the looks and they are very desirable now.
Some of the knobs are super difficult to get off. The first time I was doing it, I though that I would break something before I get them off. I've seen people remove them using two spoons, one from each side and using the top of the spoon bowl under each side of the knob like two fullcrums while rocking the bottom of the spoon bowl against the front plate. I would not use this method if the spoon is pressed on the glass. But I've used twine wrapped around the knob so that each end of the twine comes out of the opposite side of the knob, than I would take locking pliers to grab the twine ends and yank. One knob was so hard to come off, I actually broke the twine several times before the knob popped off. I can't guarantee you won't break something while pulling that hard but it worked for me.
Wishing you best of luck.

Haven't been able to get back to it but I will. I've seen the spoons used and wonder if they wouldn't leave a dent. I'll try prying against some thin wood pieces to spare the fascia. You did get the right bulbs ?

The bulbs are pretty common. They are the same 8v fuse bulbs used by Marantz. Lots of sellers all over including eBay.
