TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

The protection doesn't use a relay, but looks like Sure3116 has same pop reduction as the real blue pcb Jadran also has, which is a little more comprehensive then the green "audiobah''.
 
Just got my Sure TPA3110. Man, that thing is tiny!
I'm looking forward to playing with it this weekend. I also have one of the 6N3 pres coming but it won't arrive til next week. For now I'm going to try out a few others.
 
I have been listening back and forth between my modded TPA3116 YJ Blue, and the new Sure TPA 3110 15W 8 ohm version. No matter how many times I compare with different speakers, etc. I still like the New Sure board 15W board better:music:
I have 3 YJ TPA 3116 blue boards, 2 that are in various stages of modding, and one that is stock. I will continue the mods with the 2 I started, but don't think I will bother with the untouched one. I will just sell it.
 
I just finished my case with internal power supply (15V/5A turned up to 16V) for my red board. The woodworking and paintjob do not do the board justice but overall, I am pleased with my new amp.

I am just a sucker for rocker switches and chicken head knobs.

TDK-Lambda LS75-15.

Datasheet

It's what I could get locally and TDK seems like a solid brand.

As the consensus is that the sound is best below 19V and I do not need all the power, I decided to pick a 15V PSU and turn it up a bit instead of turning down a 24V. I was already happy with the performance with a 12V/5A external brick. The 50W (3,4A) version was probably also sufficient.
 
I started looking at my board today and realized that the Dell laptop power supply that I was going to use doesn't fit the receptacle on the board of the 3110. I was surprised since it seems like so many people are going that direction?
Have I missed something?

the 3110 is 12v isnt it,that is what I come up with but I am low on the chain,as far as knowledge.

What do you mean - it doesn't fit? A connector, perhaps?
What is the voltage of Dell PSU?
3110 accepts from MIN 10V up to 26V.
Although they noted - Minimum and maximum limits are guaranteed but may not be 100% tested (for all data)
Have you checked all info on the page?

It's actually a 24v

Yeah, it's the tip that doesn't fit. I guess I'll either need some kind of adapter or I'll look at the ratshack and see if I can find a psu that has the right fit

Take your PS to RS and they'll have a female receptacle that fits it. You can mount it to the back of your case or as I've done mount it on a small L bracket when the PS is internal.

There's a picture on the RS package that shows the hot pin and ground pin. The female adaptor can then be wired to the board's + and ground screw downs.

There's a post somewhere in this thread that shows the Radio Shack female receptacle.

JD: very cool looking build! Btw what makes you say concensus is it sounds best below 19v? Is that based on direct comparisons?
 
Soms members at diyaudio came to that conclusion. I did not feel like checking for myself. Just wanted to build an amp and knew I did not need al the power.
 
Dell connectors are different, but Sure has 2 tpa3110 boards, the little filterlessversion can take max. 19V, the bigger board can withstand the 24V. The Texas Instruments chip is not the limiting factor, other parts are.

Same here, the power supplies that came with my Dell & HP laptops have much larger diameter barrel plugs and would not fit the receptacle on my red board. Radio Shack did not have a receptacle that fit. They are both 65 W power supplies. I ordered this 120W power supply that has the right plug for $10.43 and free shipping from Amazon.

Thanks for that link! I'll check my local RS and see what they have and if I strike out, I'll likely order that.
 
Totally screwed up my measurements last night drilling holes for the 15w 3110 board, so wrecked a project box. Gave up and just screwed down the board to a plank and tested it out. First impressions, sounds great, it sounds just as loud as the 3116 clan, very nice right out of the gate. I do get a speaker pop when using my passive pre which seems to be tied to the non-complete attenuation. So I will have to solve that in coming up with a final solution for this guy. Very promising, though. I really botched the drilling, grrr, chalk it up to bad biorhythms.
