TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

I'm quite particular as far as sound quality is concerned, have been for decades. It might be interesting to compare one of these chip amps to my Radford STA25 III, which is probably the best sounding amplifier that I have.

Joking a little, I understand, but plenty good Taobao agents like Panli or Alsotao. BTW rating on Ebay concerning the redboard offer linked here previously:

How would you rate this seller if he states:Electrolytic capacitor signal main circuit adopts famous brand in Taiwan , the main filter capacitor usingNikonSpecial electrolytic capacitorsCapacity2 × 10000UF, A full-wave bridge rectifier circuit to ensure strong support for a steady stream of power .

And you will receive ampboard with 1000uF electrolytics and no full-wave bridge rectifier circuit on pcb??? You could say I never expected item to be according to discription and give positive feedback, me personally wouldn't buy from seller that gives obvious wrong discription in his ad or if I believe discription would leave negative feedback, he doesn't deliver article discribed.

Yes, I hate miss-description, only one or twice I have had this buying on ebay over 500 purchases.

These amps are so cheap, it's not the end of the world if deal is not good for whatever reason.
 
Put this together over the weekend and the initial results are good. Using a Dell 19v 3.42a AC adapter.

Best way to rate a seller is to buy their product, see how long it takes to arrive, listen to it, if it arrives fairly quick and sounds good then it's worth the $14. That's what I did. Not sure I'd order from taobao or wherever when I can't read the site.
 
Ordered My red board straight from Yuan Jing and It arrived in the Netherlands within a week. Ordering direct from Yuan Jing gave me more insurance that it's the latest version and they also offered the rca cable. As long as you can pay with PayPal, the protection is as good as on the bay.

I know a Radford-man here in Amsterdam that has resisted multiple offers on his mint Radfords he uses on German Quad speakers he keeps calling Braun :) Also the new German Quads he calls Braun :D
Intelligent and creative man.

Did anybody test this small amp on electrostatic speakers? Would be a nice gift...

Braun did market an electrostatic speaker which was basically a Quad ESL 57. I have a couple of pairs of 57's and a pair of 63's
 
Finally finished my black/blue board build on Friday night and the addition of the 50k ALPS pot eliminated the start-up POP for me that I was experiencing. As I thought, my passive pre did not attenuate 100%, probably because of a defective pot. Wiring in the ALPS was a real pain, even with the little board to solder to. A total of 14 solder points in all, ugh. But the sound seems pretty good. I have to do some A/B testing with the red board sometime with the same power supply, but they both sound good at my low to medium volume normal playing levels.

Next up, I ordered one of the 15w SURE boards, I liked that the power connector and RCAs were pre-wired, all I have to do is drill some holes and solder to the speaker connectors.

Yes Braun did, but he calls all Manfreds Quad ESL's (QA's) Braun, probably because German Quad isn't Quad (ESL63QA is best Quad I heard) He does own the German Quad 57QA's :) At the moment I have no British/German/Chinese Quad ESL's myself, curious how the little 3116amp drives the ESL's.

Well, the impedance of the ESL57 drops to a wicked low level at high frequencies, may be a problem for the 3116, it certainly is for quite a few amps, causing smoke.

However, many years ago I tried a budget Teleton 6W per channel amp with the ESL57's. It worked, and survived. Teleton SAQ206B.

I also wondered how it would drive my Rogers BBC LS3/6, which have an auto transformer on the input. Post No 1602

Sure says they're 3116 well be available later this week. I think it will give any other boards a run for their money.
