TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

Been lurking for a while on this thread and finally pulled the trigger on the YJ $10 red board. Figured I'd wade in cheaply. Now I have the agonizing wait for something to get here from HK. Thanks for all the great info. Love the diy enclosures.

Conjoined Astron TPA3116 :D

The 3116 enclosure is $4 at Rat Shack.

These boxes look marvelous! It's impossible to find that top enclosure nowhere on Int. Market for $4 :sigh:

Any chance to show how does the Astron look from the inside? What makes it so magical in fact?

Finished up my 3110 build into a very small cigar box. Still getting the power-up pop when source attached and powered on, alas. I'll post photos of the build as this one is nice and compact. I think I need to build a new passive pre to pair with it...next month. The 3110 board does seem more powerful that the 3116 red board but about the same as the 3116 blue/black - odd.

I have been! Here's a couple of pics:

I evicted a blue/black board from this box so I could listen to it right away. I'll get around to properly installing it...sometime.

The wide angle lens makes everything look a bit out of whack, but it sounds great.

Hey, David, can you give me a link on those screw-in type speaker jacks? They look neat. Might use those next time.

Cool!

Look what answer I just got from Sure, regarding pops;

Thanks for your purchase.
We have SD (shut down) function on the board. You can get rid of pops and clicks by using this fuction.
But you should do a electric circuit by yourself to realize it.

Best regards,

So piece of cake, just need to use this fuction and voilà :D
I asked for more details and instructions, but seems that need to figure out on my own how to solder toggle switch on those pins?! Shame I was not born with all the knowledge on this world

Anyway, I'm listening to some records today and must admit that 3110 is impressive little beast! I bought two 'naked' PSU on ALIexp. lately (18V 4A 72W Switching Power Supply Module) and will try with this as 12V brick seems like the weakest link here.

Look at this shop - these are of good quality. I used to buy there such parts. They have shop on eBay as well, but here are prices a bit lower (no commission).

David; that link does not work? 'Access Denied'

btw. forgot to mention - cool listening space you have!

Sorry about the bad link, go to http://www.lowes.com and search for item number 248205. You just need to cut the plastic collar off of them before use. Thanks for the compliment on my listening space, the overall pic makes it look more barren than it actually is.

Could someone please help Me out?..I got this TPA3116 board in the mail but it came without any connection detail don't want to blow it so if anyone could ID the inputs..etc..that would be great..also got the new sure board and will do a comparison

Edit: Scooped by Jadran!

The top green connector is for power, the four prong green connector is for speaker output. The left of the two white connectors is likely for RCA input, check out the fuzzy image at the bottom of this ebay listing, you can sort of read the labels.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPA3116-Cla...luetooth_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item4181c43934 Maybe you could get a better image from the seller.

Glad to know you got the green board in - how long did yours take? Waiting to hear your first impressions as well!

Well My first impressions are that the sure has an edge in sound quality...It's obvious that both of these boards need more power than a 5 amp laptop power supply can provide because when I had the volume up the amps would cutout during heavy bass hits..with the green board being the worst..over all the sure amp in My opinion and I'm not an expert..bests my modded blue/black...the audiobah green board..the other green board would be my second choice,,the sure amp as David commented is more behaved and less harsh...It's bound to sound better with a better power source. The sure amp only took a week and a half to get here and the newer green board took 12 days .
