Tri-State Altec 19 owners?

Anyone around these parts have the pleasure of owning a set? I always wanted to listen to a pair since they are so highly regarded and also because a number of owners have previously owned cornwalls. As I cornwall owner I would greatly value being able to compare.

I have never heard any vintage Altec stuff at all being able to change that in itself would be great. :thmbsp:

I have also never heard a set of Model 19s. Having owned the 15s, currently owning a set of Valencias, Flamencos, and a set of modified Santana I am a major Altec fan. However comma I also am a Klipsch fan. Currently running vintage Heresys, Cornwalls, and La Scalas. I will, god willing, someday hear and perhaps snag a set of the 19s. They are the only set on my wants list.
 
I have a set of 9844s near you. If you want to hear them drop me a PM. I have heard 19s, and they are similar.

I have been curious about horns for a while & never have had an opportunity to really hear / listen to a set - I would also be interested in listening to yours - I am in Westchester...

If I might join your demo / listening session I can bring beer and amps!
 
If you get a hankerin to listen to klipsch horns to see what all the polarized opinions are about lol. Your welcome to listen to my cornwalls chinacave.
 
I fall into the same camp. I've heard about Altecs since I was a kid yet have never heard a pair (other than in theaters etc where I was unaware what was playing). I'm also currently looking for a pair of Klipsch Heritage but it's been ages since I heard any of those. I'm in Central NJ so it sounds like we could use a big NJ/NY Klipsch/Altec listening fest! :D

Ah oh... you guys area asking for trouble. You know what they say about once you go Altec... you don't go back! The Model 19 will just about kill any Klipsch on any given day.

Seriously though, owning a pair of Magnificents ALMOST makes me feel like I have a BB 1967 Corvette.

I love my Modded vert Cornwalls but I also know there is tons of speakers out there. Bring it on Altec :D
 
Yes it is. I don't have a car myself. But we're not listening to Model 19s. I have 9844-8Bs which also use an 811 horn. Mine have 902 HF drivers. The woofers are dual 414s.

Maybe we can also hear some 19s on another day, but I don't have any. : ) I am also interested in hearing Hornertuber's vertical Cornwalls.

We'll probably be listening to the 9844s in a classroom, not an ideal hi-fi environment, but serviceable. And the 4 Pi speakers as pictured in a control room. So both settings are not typical domestic environments, FYI.

19's at some point would be cool too. They seem to be the pinnacle of vintage altec line. Though from what I read the 9844's are no slouches and sound similar with just a lower bass.

I read the Pi's are nice too. This will be my 1st experience with them as well.

You guys are welcome to come to my place and listen to the vert cornwalls. Talk about not ideal hi-fi environment though lol.....

Hello,Hello, Found it Bowtie ! Sorry I'm late guys.Yes I have 19's and Cornwall II's as the the moniker says though Altec Best ! :yes: My Cornwalls don't sound bad either just not as good as the 19's.I upgraded the tweeter with a titanium diaphragm and also with Crites XO's. My model 19's have new rebuilt Crossovers as well.I have 604-8G's too in 612C cabs. I'm trying to finish up a custom build I have been doing but have been working a lot,not much time for hobby projects unfortunately.It is a dual woofer (416-8B's) 20 cu.ft. corner cabs with 511E's/288's. :thmbsp:
