Tri-State Altec 19 owners?

And will be one of the last ! They are very big speakers ! But if you have the room they are worth the real estate.I have my Cornwalls with my 19's and when I A/B them the clarity on the 19's is quite apparent. :thmbsp: However the Cornwalls are slightly more efficient.But don't mistake the higher volume for better sound quality.I just give the 19's a little more power.The 19's also go lower,which I like.

I bought a Mint pair on that auction site for $909. :D They can be had cheaply, keep looking, they are worth it. :yes:

Yeah but will be after the holidays now.With all the christmas stuff my wife has out it isn't conducive to large listening posses ! :D

But really at the moment I'm working a lot.But usually slows down near and after the holidays.

PS. They are as big as washing machines,but sound much better !

Haha washing machines. I actually physically couldnt fit 19's in my place. The cornwalls are actually my max in both dimensions and weight :D

Based on this whole convo and my late night readings though I may just pick up a set of 511's and adapters to use my k55's. I find threads going back 10 years on people running 511's with the whole line of Klipsch heritage and loving it. Not all but considering the ratio I'm willing to risk it :music:

Though the suggestion to my wife and her face when I told her the dimensions of 511's make me think I'm pushing my luck lol.
 
Cool thread.. I had to laugh a little though.. Cornwalls are probably the smallest big box speakers I've had, and I thought they weren't that big.. I could even lift them in and out of my truck by myself. None of the others I've been able to do that with..

Ya'll are gonna love the Model 19's... I've had a couple friends that had them years ago, and I remember just sitting and smiling the whole time I listened..
 
The cornwalls definitely pale in comparison to many speakers as far as size goes, even in its own line. At this point in my life as a 20's newlywed, in this studio my options are def limited. You want to laugh? lol look how I'm rollin.....

A little heads up High frequencies beam.So you really don't want the tweeters up at the ceiling. :no: If your spacew is that limited why would you want to hear 19's.It will be something you could never have in that studio ! :D


Tip: If I were you I would flip those upside down so the tweeters are down lower near your ears, they will sound much better promise. :thmbsp:

Actually I have tried my Cornwalls flipped and I stacked them up on the 19's to make a MTM configuration.They sounded nice together as well :music:

Thanks skywave lol, you just need to cross the river!!! Pay half the rent for twice the space but you have to constantly endure the jokes haha. My wife was living in BK when we got married, paid the same for a single room as we pay here with a view.

Oh I know AB believe me. I was thinking of flipping them but have been procrastinating because of what a pita it will be lol. Some people over in the klipsch forum seem to enjoy them upside down when mounted in a less then desirable way. Maybe I'll try that when I get the 511's because I'll have to move them to remove the back anyway.
For what its worth though I have had the opportunity to listen to my cornwalls in a more optimal setting and the difference was negligible. I want to attribute it to the fact they are verts and having the horns set vertical helps disperse the sound better on that axis. Which since they are so high is the issue. Also that the cornwalls seem to be pretty good at off axis listening. I also had the opportunity of listening to a horizontal set in a nice 25x25 tuned room with my fisher 500c and it sounded better fore sure. I dont plan to die here, when we are more established I'll have the luxury of a better listening environment.... I hope? lol

You guys own the horns so I definitely respect and appreciate the opinions. For the price though I think I'll do some experimenting. My theory, if we can call it that, is that since the 511 seems to be way better at dispersion then the k600 in my cornwalls that even mounted in an less then optimal position it will still be an improvement. That hold water? :D

Hope I'm right, my wife certainly needs convincing haha.

Ya I think I have her about there lol. I mean if she can put up with the bass knocking all the condiments over constantly then the addition of a couple horns shouldnt be that bad :D.

FYI - Frank has a pair of Altec 19 speakers that we play at our New England GTGs - next one is slated for the later part of February in Clinton, MA - keep an eye on the "Events & Happenings" forum.

I sold a pair of Valencia's last year and I have a pair of 19's right now that will never leave- I,ve had two pairs of Cornwallis -a pair of 2's and a pair of vertical 1's - the Valencia's were good but the highs and lows were not there like the 19's have- the Cornwallis had good bass and high, but we're not as smooth as the 19's - the 19s are huge though about a third larger than the valencias and double the size of the cornwalls
