Did you just use an ESR meter on the caps, or is there another way to more accurately figure Z? Oh, btw, that regulator circuit that you showed me puts out some of the cleanest DC around. Have you ever built it yourself? When I use it in an integrated I take my phono stage power from it's output which goes to the screens. I just use Rs before the phono tube plates to decouple and get the V where I want it.

BTW I added I forget how much more capacitance to my CDP but I think its somewhere near 150,000uf from something like 13,000uf my final caps are Muse which are diode isolated.

As to low DCR if you took a look at the 45 amplifier that I posted a link to with schematic that I designed. You'd see I used two Antech power transformers in parallel with a full wave bridge rectifier.

The transformers in parallel are just 5.5 ohm's the amps supply path is another 5 ohm's. Considering the safety Thats not a bad DCR when most peoples amplifiers are sometimes in the hundreds if not thousands of ohm's. I might add the amplifiers are dead quite. I have to put my ear in the Modified LaScala's horn to hear kind of noise.

Nowadays I prefer bridge rectifers with HV single winding transformers rather than CT types. Why they are just smoother. In fact someone put a scope on some full wave CT tranny's and saw spikes being produced influencing the sound. No wonder why tube rectifiers are preferred by so many people.

I have to say if you go back and look at some of the great classics you'll see voltage doubler's or bridge rectifiers. But you will often see single HV windings on the transformers!

I have spent time with DaveC's 300B amps which use SS bridges. He uses a Cree I believe. And I have to say his sound is as nice the best tube rectification I have heard. When we went to the bridge 6D22S's in the 45 amp I had some worries if I was going to like them over the 5Z3's we were using. But man those 6D22S's in bridge mode are awesome and smooth as silk and cheap at that!

I to have redboy ASC caps, 6 of them to be exact they are very expensive to buy like over $100 each or higher! and I owe him a pair of Allen amplifiers if I can find a way of getting them to him.

Nice, what kind of deck is that? I've used what we call control transformers, which are generally big. They have straps on the terminals to make whatever voltage you want. I run them backwards with 120 input and use either the 208 or 460 out on the other side. I have them in my 6GK6 PP amp that weighs 72 pounds (lots of chokes).

That's my Sony X77ES CDP weighs in at about 40lbs and is heavily modified using current hungry Burson Discrete Op Amps. The CDP uses two massive R-Core power transformers one for audio and one for digital



What's the DCR of your tranny's?

That is simply not true, use it a lot to figure out DC SET amps.
