Tubes 4 Hifi Preamp Kit

Has anybody tried or now anything about this preamp kit from Tubes 4 Hifi? I'm looking to build a tube preamp for a Dynaco ST 70.

Looks very interesting, do you have a pat-4 chassis? They are pretty cheap on the bay. Looking at the build it looks pretty straight forward, although I would purchase the board and source the components myself. The extra $90 will buy far superior electrolytic and film caps then the Xicons. Although they will do the job.

FYI...... PAT 4 is a solid state pre-amp.

Yes it is, that is why the chassis is cheaper than a PAS-3. They are easier to come by. The above project is made to fit in a gutted PAS or PAT chassis. Some of the Dead FM tuners make great donor chassis as well.

I've been looking at this pre amp kit for a while now but was not sure about it. I figured I could just do some of the upgrades from this forum on my PAS3 instead.

No I don't have a PAT-4, but the use of the PAT-4 chassis and the cost of the kit caught my interest.

What brand of caps would you recommend?

If you can get some Rubycon Black Gates or Panasonic FC for the electrolytic and Solens for the poly films. You can do a search on the forum for the caps, as there are many out there. I don't buy into the super high priced boutique caps, well partly because of budget.

I know this one is not tubes but it's working fantastic for me with my tube amps and electronic crossover (BBE DS26), it's a bargain at less than $25.
