Ugliest speakers?

JBL CF150's, they look fine with the grills off, but when you put one the (cheep plastic, yes plastic) grills, they look ugly. For some reason they look like pregnant black boxes with them on.

As a note, I own a pair of these and they sound great. Build quality is a bit on the low side though.

I actually own a pair of those butt-ugly Coral BX-200 speakers.
A friend once asked me, "what whore house did you steal those from?"
To me....looks like they were used in the old Addams Family series?
"Gomez, turn up the music"
"What music.....that's Lurch snoring?"

Steve

These Ipod speakers look ugly, and quite cheap too.

Oh, and these look pretty ugly too.

They tried for wood grain, but you can tell it's plastic, and it just looks, bleh!

Those Von Schweikerts look like a prettied up version of the Naim speakers from the eighties -- at least the VSs have lipstick on them.

JVC's Sea Anemone?

Called the 'quasar', it appears to be a cluster**** of speaker cones designed to confuse the hell out of anyone who's listening to it.

Is it ugly? Perhaps

Is it weird and unnecessary? Yes.

We could post all day about homemade speakers, or speakers that took a severe cosmetic beating, but I'm more interested in the ugliest speaker design... like you see them in the store or in a catalog pic and go "What were they thinking?!"

The AR3a's were that ugly straight from the factory.

Picked these up on the bay....They ugly....but cool. I've totally rebuilt them and this weekend I will sand them down to pure clean oak. Cheers.

Heh. I was just going to mention those barrels(apologies). I guess I'll go with the Design Acoustics D-12, ugly but a great speaker. Sonabs were not very stunning, either.

I would like to see a speaker shaped like Marilyn Monroe. The woofer would be in her hip area, the tweeter mounted about where her navel would be, and the dual mids would be mounted....umm....well, just above.

just about any loudspeaker they make these days is positively FUGLY. PIONEER, of all companies, producing one of the fugliest, the S-1EX...

now see everyone? "Kabuki" speaks aren't all THAT bad. you know what they say, "you never appreiciate what you had until it's gone...

I don't understand how those (S-1EX) are ugly? Clean architectural lines, apparent high build quality, nice choice of materials, aggressive stance -- they look gorgeous to me.

Wilson Audio Watt Puppies. Always looked like the lovechild of R2-D2 and a trashcan, with Pee Wee Herman as attending midwife.

P.S. I think those Pioneer are beautiful. I would be proud to display them in my living room. Then again, I find the baby-coffin rectangular boxes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s to be unattractive.

Now these are ugly...

I've always hated the looks of those Infinity RS 4.5's, even though they sound glorious.

I was going to say the Altec A7 VOT's until I saw mhardy6647 post. That is an ugly speaker, drywall screws and all.

That post is a freekin' riot!
I think I could get used to those 'puppies', though.

Thanx for the laugh

The homemade barrel speakers would look great in a pirate ship or wine cellar themed room. Seriously, I think they'd fit either of those themes nicely.

Those Wilson Audio Watt Puppies DO look like a cross between R2-D2 and a trash can. They're pretty ugly.

I find the S-1EX's to be rather inoffensive. If I saw them in a room, I probably wouldn't give them a second thought.

The Infinity RS 4.5's certainly look odd, though I like how the woofers look.

The JBL CF150's also look rather inoffensive to me, grills or not.
