Pnoe Horn Speakers

some of the best sound Ive heard,.....
but I may be biased, having owned all 3 types.....:D:D:D:D

Love the look of these, had a chance to buy a pair once at an estate sale for $500, but was a bit too much for me to spend without hearing them first, I will always wonder if these were the ones that got away. :scratch2:

that would have been a good deal, it is wise to listen to these before ya buy, the woofer cones have rott issues, and if the speakers have been abused the ribbon can buzz......

BEWARE......
once yo own a set of ribbons you will not want to go back to cone type.

I went through all 22 pages in a single sitting.

I'm scrolled out.

Good work gentlemen.

This thread has some many cool speakers in it that it places doubt about my own Industrial Design abilities. I really need to get around to posting more on my website.

These are pretty cool from an Industrial Design view point. The originals built by the dad were ID designed by an architect, these were glammed up by an ID firm.

Technics SST-35HZ Super Bass Exciter

There are some very weird designs out there; some are weird cool while others are plain ugly. Personally, I'm working on the addition of a red Technics SST-25HZ Subwoofer but I currently have a white SST-35HZ Super Bass Exciter. The 25 is a fair amount larger than my 35HZ and it will really shake the house to the point of killing fish and knocking things of the shelves in rooms down the hall. To give you an idea of how large these are, my SST-25HZ is sitting next to my Klipsch La Scala's. The 25HZ is even taller and bigger around. They were designed for outdoor use, theater or very large room use although ours works very nice in our home theater or family room.

It is great to hear of someone out there that actually has an SST line unit, let alone heard of them. This line was my inspiration to begin this thread (check out page 1 for some more images). I once saw one at a restaurant, jotted down the model, then went home to research on the internet. Sadly, there is almost nothing that I could find on the net to shed some light on these. I wondered how many other cool speaker designs might be in existence, so this thread seemed a logical way to get enthusiasts to help us all to discover speaker designs past, present, and perhaps future.

These are RARE as Hughes Audio was not around for very long, and mostly only known for SRS technology. However, some cool tech was showcased in the design of these speakers, but the company was not around long enough for these to get any decent market share. I could only find this image on the internet to post here, wish I could get a decent image to replace this one.

I've got two pair of these if you'd like better photos. One pair in "like new" condition, and a second in an unopened box. I was going to use them for a media room project that never came together.

And quite frankly, they aren't going to replace my JBL L112's :)

I actually just saw this thread. It is absolutely amazing. Everything from incredible design (both aesthetically and sonically) to a tremendous waste of cash - and I mean that in a save-the-children kind of way. But one post stuck with me - and it's all the way back on page six:

Check out these in Terra LA speakers in red...

Just looking at that makes me almost pee myself. That is absolutely a fat guy posing through one of those face/photo cutout things. And if I owned them, there's NO WAY I would ever hook them up. My hands would simply refuse to spin a fat guy's nuts. Period.
