Unique & Distinctive Speakers

Far from 'putting your girl friend to shame', all of those 'sexy' speakers need bags over their heads. The woman's leg was by far the best looking thing at the site.

Gee, Nat, I can't imagine why my post deserves such an unwarranted negative response, but...
Keep up the great attitude man!

I was responding not to your post but the Audio Junkies site that 80sKid offered -- interesting, but not to my taste. Very much not to my taste, if that wasn't obvious.
Now the brick horn subwoofer -- that is very cool. Reminds me of the full size concrete horns a couple of really passionate audiophiles build into the sides of their houses in the 50s. One guy waited til his wife went away for a vacation, knocked the wall out of the living room, built the horn (hidden in shrubbery) and put a a scrim where the living room wall had been, painted to look identical to the original wall. Everything was fine until one day his wife leaned against the wall, and fell into the horn...

With the exception of the Tannoy and maybe the Kef I agree. Seems "sexy" is code for "weird" .... with all the little separate spheres and weird elements.....
No longer unique, beginning to look pretty darned predictable.

Worlds Smallest Speaker by Panasonic

At just 1.5mm-thick, Panasonic claims that it has developed the "world's thinnest speaker".

...cutting its previous best effort (an enormous 2.5 millimeters thick) by a full 40%, with this room-shaker sliding in at a far more manageable 1.5 millimeters (or 0.059 inches) . Rest assured, despite being sliced nearly in half, according to Panasonic, the speaker will boast the same great sound quality you've come to expect from a speaker the size of a postage stamp

Maybe it due to me being a little older now but I can do with out some of the newer trick designs that i ve run across out there from time to time. I look at it and I have to wonder what the hell it was meant to do or sound like. The traditional speaker will do for me just fine.:scratch2:

victor,
I used to see photos of speakers like the Avantgard with their huge horns and think "Who'd buy that?".Now I really like the compression driver/horn thang.

I tell people now;Go and hear a good compression driver/horn system.

I've been doing this Audio thing for a few decades now,and if any lesson has sunk in,it's: "Don't assume anything." :thmbsp:

Sometimes it's the amp you'd never suspect,or the speakers that you'd never desire or the cartridge that you'd written-off,that really surprise you.

Now lest you think that I've mistaken weird for it own sake with quirky but innovative.I know the difference sufficiently. If you are ever in a dealership and you see something different, and the sales guy says "They're interesting",ask him if you can listen to them.It may never be your 'cup of tea',but you might well understand why he said they were 'interesting'.
