Unique & Distinctive Speakers

Wow. No, I had never heard of the bone phone. Definitely would like to experience that to see what it's like.

I do recall that in the late 80's a company was marketing speakers that were embedded in the wall and made the wall itself act as the diaphragm. I actually thought that might go somewhere (at least for casual listening), but obviously not.

Dang yo...

More IPOD Speakers

I have seen soooo many unique IPOD speakers, the format sure has sparked a lot of creative minds out there. I thought this concept particulary clever.

Hughes Orb Speakers

These are RARE as Hughes Audio was not around for very long, and mostly only known for SRS technology. However, some cool tech was showcased in the design of these speakers, but the company was not around long enough for these to get any decent market share. I could only find this image on the internet to post here, wish I could get a decent image to replace this one.

"I bid 20 quatloos for the newcomers."

You win! Old trekkie fan here as well. As much as I like Gladiator type movies, the scene from this Star Trek episode that I have burned into my memory is as follows...

STGameTrisk.jpg

No surprise...memory filter of a young man at the time :D

To keep this audio related, is that a speaker in the background behind the young lady (er, I mean Shahna the Alien)? There have been a few trek-like audio speakers posted on this thread already (and I don't mean trek as in "train-wreck", although there are a few of those in the thread as well). :D

Man, when I watch the old episodes again, I am amazed how many times they fell back on the old "Kirk / love / kiss / success" direction. I guess it was one of those era specific things...perhaps it brought in the female crowd to watch the series.

I don't wish to further any chance of this thread going off track. I'll just say that if you like Star Trek, please see my signature.

We recently talked about some of JBL's historic and unique models. But I'm not sure that we've ever mentioned the L250 in this thread. The were the TOTL in the 80's and are still highly sought after to this day. They were originally sold in a wood finish, but later also sold in a black piano finish as the "Jubilee" edition. This is one of my all-time-favorite speakers.

Chris:
Those JBLs are AWESOME!!! :thmbsp: I have never seen nor heard of those before (something I say a lot with many of the speakers in this thread).

Then it will perhaps come as no surprise that a pair of the Jubilee edition recently sold for around $5000 on eBay.

1975 JBL 4682 "Strongbox" Array

JBL sure has a long history with outstanding Pro and Consumer side products.
A few years before the L250, JBL had introduced this interesting tower speaker:

JBL Everest DD 55000 (Japan's Stereo Sound's Product of the Year)

Wow, I started looking into JBl historical products, and in addition to the historic "Paragon" already posted in this thread, I found another outstanding speaker that I was not previosuly aware of.
