uxcell Film Capacitor can't find any info

I can say this, I have definitely noticed a difference in speakers right after a recap and after several hours. I did not sit and listen to become (use to them) either. My guess is the caps have to (fill up) to do there thing, I really don’t know. It would be nice to see actual measurements on cap burn in.
The Diatone 505’s I did awhile back were horrible, very harsh, after installing some not so cheap Mudorf silver in oils. I let them play on there own for 8 hours or so and came back to them. I played the same media the same way and were very much different. I am not the one to get into a burn in debate but personally I have in some cases definitely heard a difference. The Solens however have been reviewed as being bright.

Oh lord, I’m hiding under my bed. I swear if I hit the lotto I’ll build an anechoic chamber just for testing cap burn in, signal and speaker cables, fuses, and power cables. Maybe even magic wooden voodoo blocks but probably couldn’t afford those.

I've been playing music and pink noise through these peerless 1" tweeters and the solen caps are still so harsh.. it has gone done slightly.. maybe. Will a different cap really change the harshness?

Heresy 1? Those are like cold water on your face when they are stock. I had a pair of 81' and I sold them fast. I'm intrigued that caps have such an impact. This hobby and the snake oil aspect of it get me..

I very much believe caps have different sound signatures. I’m just a hobbiest, far from a pro or engineer, I’ve recapped my share of speakers. The results have definitely not always been good, sometimes I can’t tell a difference, sometimes I hear a major improvement. This may occasionally just be from installing new caps in place of old caps that have degraded, that old cap might have sounded the same or better than the replacement when new.
As far as lower end and mid fi gear goes a recap for me is just part of the service, I’m passing on gear I know has new parts, less issues with unsatisfied owners or failures. Recently I opened up a pair of speakers that are now 20 plus years old, it was full of quality caps, after some listening I saw no reason to recap them. Another reason was it would be very expensive to recap them, they are the best sounding speakers I have ever had so I’m not going to screw them up.
As far as Heresy’s that’s a whole difrent thread, haha. I have an amazing pair all I had to do is change the tweeter, the crossovers, the woofers, port the cab, add dampening, seal it up tight. Literally the only parts untouched are the mid driver itself, the horns got some Dynomat, and the badges, which are lies. See how easy it’s is to make Heresy’s play in the 30’s with a nice smooth detailed top end, haha.
In all seriousness the Obligatos really did improve the sound to me. I ran a 1uf, .8uf, and a .22uf in place of each 2uf can. I might have just added some resistance that took the mid and highs down a little, I really don’t know but it worked for me. I do have five sets of Type E’s all with different caps including one stock I want to do a comparison with a stock set of early Heresy’s I just can’t find anyone else that wants to listen to them for that long.

I have a pair of type e 1 that are waiting for a refoam, will it needs caps too? Small world lol.

I'm working with 8uf are solen that harsh or would a different if altogether help?

Electrolytics tend to have higher ESR which means they attenuate the signal a bit more than film caps. So replacing an old NPE with a film type can cause a higher output in that driver than was originally designed in. Some people don't mind it, some actually like it (many older speakers didn't have super highs anyway), while others find it too loud/shouty/harsh/edgy.

Do you have a schematic of the crossover? Is the cap in series with the tweeter? Is there an Lpad? Replacing a 40yr old electrolytic with a brand new film is definitely going to make the speaker sound different. When you say the Solen is to bright, what are you comparing it to? Often times small electrolytic caps elecially old ones can have significant ESR, when used in series with a tweeter this can slightly lower the tweeter output. Replace that high ESR electrolytic with a low ESR Cap and the tweeter level can increase just enough for it to seem bright.

If anything I’d suggest a high quality nonpolar electrolytic if that’s what was originally there
