Vintage Gear vs Modern Gear. Is new any better than old?

Have you tried to find a matched rank/set of VFETS lately?

I've never had any problems with any of the vfets I've had. That may just be good fortune, but I also do the research and prepare for when I go to test out gear. I've never bought from the bay. Almost always in person. I'm a touchy feely sort of guy. :)

There are ways to get remote control with vintage, depending on what you want to do. I use iTunes on my Mac Pro Connected to a NAS and outputting to 4 airport expresses in my house. I can control any or all of the airport expresses using my iPhone and iPad. If I want different songs playing in different parts of the house at different volumes, I can do that, and the remote app for iTunes allows me to pick playlists, control volume or change music with ease. I use this the most on my speakers on the deck driven by one of the Bose 1801 and 4401. All good.

But THAT IS THE POINT. These companies wouldn't be producing these items if people weren't buying them. Obviously, the people buying find there is value in it. Who are we to say otherwise? Your comment was based on YOUR value, not others. For you that is valid, for others, who bought this system, no it is not and that is the point people ignore in these threads.

Would I buy it, no. BUT, I do appreciate the sound it produces.

My point is correct and valid, if you read carefully you would realize that I simply said there would not be many people that would argue that value was the reasoning to make such a purchase. That is absolutely true.

I clarified that comparative worth was the definition of value that I was addressing.

I didn't condemn them or say it was foolish to spend that amount of money on an item, it's perfectly fine that they do that and have the funds to make such a purchase.

I simply offered MY opinion.

You are perfectly entitled to have another point of view, however YOUR comment is based on YOUR value, that doesn't make mine wrong.

Do you think the guy who bought a McLaren is going to say, 'Hey buddy this car was a great value purchase" very unlikely, people would think he has a screw loose. Now if he got the car for 25% off list price he might say that.

He might feel the Value in buying it was to have a better, faster cooler car than his buddies, or having a very high end performance vehicle. I understand that, that's a value, just not the area of value I was addressing and clarified in my second post, that should have been enough. but no you decide you need to condemn my opinion as invalid.

Sorry but that's not the case. That's why they are opinions.

If old gear was as expensive as the old cars you list, you would have a perfect point.

The thing is, I'm not paying $5k (and it could be much more than that) when I can pay $500 and get 90+% of the sound for 1/10th of the price and I have, many times. I'm not looking for perfection. Just really good. And I have it.

You think it's burnt toast, great for me. One less person to compete with.
The burnt toast reference was to the poster that compared liking older equipment from the past to liking burnt toast because your mom burnt toast.

I like older gear and newer used gear as a method of getting the maximum in great sound for a reasonable price. The most I have paid for a single piece of gear is around 500.00
so that puts me in the cheap skate area of audio equipment. Considering the dollars I have spent, I think my systems sound pretty good.

Your opinion HAS NO BEARING ON WHAT I SAID. If fact, your opinion is obfuscation and since you keep on tweaking it so you can be right doesn't mean much. I stand by what I said. Prove me wrong, but you can't.

Sorry that you don't seem to understand that an opinion is just that

So you like to try to bully people on a website.

Trying to pick a fight with people all the time and contradict their opinions says a lot about who you are.

I have every right to my opinion, just as much as you have your's.

You guys should stop mentally fighting and beating the sh$t out of each other and meet up and really beat the sh$t out of each other and then you may feel better or worse...

As soon as I get enough money in the coffee can I'm going to buy these speakers.
That may be a few years but by that time they will be obsolete but obsolete doesn't matter to me.

Not bullying - It is y'all that are the bullies. Any time people speak up about new or modern equipment, the vintage crowd, goes off the deep end and do ANYTHING to shut people up. Every single thread, like this, goes the same way.

People put out some facts.

Vintage people come out of the wood work.

more facts.

Vintage re-jiggies their arguments so they can be right and bullies people by piling on.

Nothing more than is happening now. It is just they way it is on AK.

have fun - I am out...

For the record it's apparent you didn't really read anything I posted with reference to the vintage / newer equipment.

I do have some vintage equipment and enjoy having and using it, but the main system I listen to the most, consists of newer used equipment

I am using an Anthem processer unit with a Sunfire cinema Grand and a Marantz SACD player, in my opinion that's newer equipment. not brand new, but newer more technically advanced that the vintage 70's equipment.

I can appreciate a wide variety of audio equipment and to quote you " if it wasn't a value people wouldn't buy it" and plenty of people are buying old vintage equipment so you've suggested it's a value but yet you argue it's not. It appears you disagree with yourself.

Good luck with that.
