I'm one of those gen Y folks who are said to be helping drive the vinyl revival.
I've always called them records, or 'vinyl' - either as a way to refer to the format, or as another plural term. I think 'vinyls' is more of a gen Z term, although I've seen it used by other gen Y folks who are more casual about it/aren't really record collectors.
I think it might have to do with a higher probability that gen Y folk's parents might have still had a record collection in the household somewhere (and were exposed to the proper terminology growing up), whereas it's more likely gen Z-ers grew up in a strictly CD/digital household and are now discovering analog.
In any case, I think it's great that more people are enjoying this format, no matter what they call them. Spin on, I say!

Gen Z is renaming other things, too. To them, a VCR is a "VHS player", because if they're even old enough to remember VHS, it's from their childhood when they only ever used a VCR to play Disney movies, never to record anything.
And nowadays around 70% of people pronounce GIF with a hard G, despite its creator and most people who are old enough to rememebr when GIFs were simply a way to display images on a computer, not the format of animated social media memes, pronouncing it with a soft G.
But of course, this is all small potatoes compared to flat-Earthers, anti-vaxxers, Moon landing truthers, etc. actively working to un-learn hundreds of years of progress in science and technology...
