I am looking at buying these. Can anyone tell me what drivers are the original? Pictures online are conflicting. Anything I should know or look for with these subs?

Both drivers are original. I own the same as the one on the left, that one has the upgraded 12 inch woofer. It originally had the woofer on the right.

The sub sounds real good with about 600 watts rms crossed over between 60-80 hz.

They are VMPS Larger Subs. They have 12" and 15" active woofers, with a down firing 15" passive radiator. The passive radiator uses rope putty for mass loading. Once installed and placed in the room, the putty is designed to be slowly removed, a tiny bit at a time, to tune the bass to the equipment and room.

Awesome subs. They were also used by JPL for vibrational testing of outer space bound electronics. :yikes:

One last thing. There were Larger, Original, and Smaller subs. The Original used a single 12" active with a down firing 15" radiator. The Smaller used a 12" active with a 12" down firing radiator. Later, the upright Larger was redesigned as a horizontal Larger. Next was the 215 sub, with a 15" active and a down firing 15" passive. Brian's final sub design was the Very Large Array, with four 12" woofers and dual 15" passive radiators.

Looking at the picture, the left sub looks like an upgraded Larger. The top woofer, with the phase plug, came later. Brian later offered a woven carbon fiber megawoofer, with the phase plug too. These Goldwood 15" woofers were used as an upgrade as well.

I couldn’t tell exactly what cone that was on my phone, mine has the woven carbon fiber 12 with the phase plug and the upgraded passive radiator.
