what an absolute legend ,did not know much about him till i saw him live in amsterdam around 82 with weather report ,he and jaco opened my ears when i realized you don't need a guitar player in the band,i met him a few times when he was doing various tours as my friends brother was his drummer ,saw him last around 4 years ago at the blue note in NYC ,he was so chill.
i will spin some weather report live later today .

Yeah, that's really sad... I discovered his musics way back in the 80s in my late teens and have been a fan ever since. He was part of and arguably even the key member (because he usually composed much of the music) of so many bands, Art Blakey, Miles, Weather Report, etc. His own records, particularly, the 60s era Blue Note ones are some of my favorite jazz recordings in my collection. I'd say that he's about as important as Miles, Coltrane or anyone in the modern jazz realm... He will be missed.
