Let me preface this by saying, some of you here in the Tube Forum know me and some of you don't, for those of you who don't know me, here at AK I am the Pioneer Forum Moderator, and I am the Co-Moderator for the Vintage Solid State Forum as well. Now you're probably wondering what this "die-hard" SS guy is doing here, well, I guess it's time I come clean. I just bought my first Tube component! There, I said it, that's a tremendous weight off my shoulders! How did that happen? Well, after attending my 6th AK Fest in-a-row, and listening to all the awesome tube systems there every year, along with having a few AK buddies heavy into the tube scene, I guess, as Mr. Smith would say, "it was inevitable." I not only bought my first tube component, but I've gone a little wild and pretty much jumped in with both feet. My Tube preamp showed up today via FedEx and here are a couple of pictures:

I am piecing together a little system to go with those Tyler Acoustics D-4 Speakers I was "damn lucky" to win at this year's AK Fest. This Lamm LL2 Deluxe tube preamp (above) is part of that little system I am putting together. I am also picking up a Forte' Model 4a Class A amp (below) from Urizen at Jay's get together down in Kansas this weekend. Here is a picture of that:

The source? Well, I pretty much went all out on the source and got me one of these:

So, as you can see, I really did jump in with both feet, but I'm hoping the end results will be something special, and something I can enjoy for many years to come. Thanks for your help in being a part of me coming clean here in the tube forum, and please, don't tell anyone in those other SS forums (that I mentioned above) about any of this okay, just our little secret.....

Since transistors were preceded by tubes, I guess now you have really gone Retro.

That combo ought to make a killer system. And you don't need a cargo van to carry it to next year's Fest.
 
Hey Gregg, check and see what tubes that sweet preamp uses. Ya never know what kind of NOS goodness you might find laying about at the tube spa.:para:
 
Those stands are top drawer Greg, did they come with the speakers, or did you just find a perfect match?:drool:

Hey Jay,
Those are the "actual" speakers, but that is Tyler's Audiogon picture of them, and I don't own those particular speaker stands. I will be looking for some heavy metal stands to replace the lighter weight ones I am currently using now.
 
Check with Ty, as his website lists custom stands, and they look similar to the one pictured. Those big stands, sand-filled, would be awesome, indeed.

I don't know much of anything about the "modern" tube gear, but it sounds like it should be very nice, from the comments. Congrats on your new toys, I hope you enjoy them. :smoke:

They say variety is the spice of life!

I bet some 12FQ7s would sound much better in there in place of the 12AU7s, as long as the heater circuitry in the LAMM can handle it (i'd have to see a schematic to be sure). Of course, I'm sure it sounds mighty fine stock, I'm just always thinking about tinkering.
