Went on a console pickup and ???

If I had brought a Stubby (screwdriver, you perverts), it wouldn't have been so bad and we'd have gotten the 800 out. As it was, the only thing we removed was the control box for the X-10 space Expander.

Sam. Her Type "A" II has another platter that sits over the small one guled together by a piece of flimsy foam. Never seen one like it. It makes sense from a standpoint of wow and flutter (rotational weight on the outside).

This is so cool. Congratulations, Frannie! I can't believe that was FREE! Where did you guys pick that up? I wonder if we crossed paths since I was up in Bowie today at the National Capital Radio and Television Museum using their tube tester. Though I think I would have noticed any console laden trailers.

Incidentally, I had a chance to dig through some of their files while there and came across numerous Fisher service manuals. I made copies of some and purchased about 20 Sams duplicates they had ($1 each!). Found schematics for nine different Fisher consoles but the '64 Ambassador VI A-69 was the only new one.

Among the lot of schematics is one for the K-10 Space Expander which may be of interest - though Larry seems to be insisting that it's an X-10 which would be a new chassis for me. Does X-10 denote the addition of the remote control feature? I will be following this thread with much interest.

Poor Larry .. I was almost zero help other than going I am sorry I am sorry about 10 times as he struggled with the load. The real issue was not being about to remove the 800C. Although this is made of solid wood it seems and well that just weighs a lot more.

I can't believe that was FREE! Where did you guys pick that up?

Down in Huntington South of DC. It was on Craigslist in the free section which outside of Baltimore I rarely look at. And the woman we got it from knew what she had. She had a bad experience with some guys who hauled away a nice freezer and fridge laughing about squashing it and my plea to keep it out of that type of persons hands resonated with her. She has some serious good karmic payback coming and I am happy to have met such a honorable and nice person.

Oh yes in many consoles of the era. The type A was all over the early to mid sixties Fisher line.

Btw the brochure I have is for 1964, The user guide is for the IX and the receipt is for December of 1966.

So this is some leftover console that I surmise was part of Fishers not forcing them new transistorized sets on everyone. Perhaps at the point this was put together it was build it from any compatible leftover part in stock. Not that it matters too much as those parts are all awesome. Just wondering is all.

Also now I have to find me a second WS-1 speaker. Also the woman we bought it from claimed it had some center channel speaker. And she threw that and the other WS-1 away. I have cables for three speakers BTW that match up. But I can't find any sort of center channel speaker in the fisher lineup.

I can't move it until I get some of those floor coasters as get this. It drove a gouge into Larrys plywood floor!!!. Now that is one heavy console folks.

I can't imagine what a President weighs.

I wonder if this wasn't "last year's model" from dealer inventory. Leftover stock, sold at a discount by a dealer. "Oh - we're never gonna get rid of this SpaceExoander - put it in that Executive..." Or maybe it's a combination of our imagined scenarios.

Yeah - I've got a nice gouge in my hardwood floor thanks to mine. At least the reel to reel had been removed - that lightened it for you by a good 4%.:scratch2:

Yes free .. she knew what she had but as I related she was of the karmatic sense and wanted it in a home as a complete unit over a scrap heap with the guts removed.

I'm getting too old, and the organs are getting bigger and heavier all the time. But they are going to good causes (refurbished and delivered to churches devastated by various natural disasters).

If you need a replacement turntable, I don't think I have any basic "A"s. But I have a handful of Garrards from the same time period (some "RC"s and I think "A-2" s) that might do. Or they might at least have parts you can use if you are going to try and restore the existing turntable.

Can you confirm that the Garrard has a 10" platter? I found the mat from the corpse of an RC88 that I threw out a few weeks ago. My AT6 (same family as the A) has a 12" platter.

Frannie, I think your Garrard Type A is missing the top platter - there's supposed to be a heavy cast ring that sits over the top of what you have there. See pics here.

Actually Fran's "A" is an "A" MK-II. Hence the 2 part platter. The "A" in my CE VII is different slightly. I'm gonna try some 1/8" thick foam sheet and 3M spray headliner adhesive and give it a shot.

I got all the bits to the turntable. We just pulled the loose parts for the expedition back on the freeway.

Knob brights .. those are fancy smancy things I can live without.

Now I have that console I can be buried in that will piss a few people off since it weighs 500 pounds alone.

I had the French Provincial version of that, without the reverb. The doors on the front made it even heavier. After moving it several times, for almost a thousand miles each time, It finally had to go when I moved into a mobile home. I still have the 800C that says "Executive" on the front.
