Wharfedale Denton vs. Elac B6

Cool, thanks. Not much of a movie buff myself, but that's good to know. I would think that their articulation would be quite good. I'm set over here. I feel like I'd have to pay a lot more $ to gain significant improvement over what I have, and, frankly, the super high end speakers often end up bothering my ears anyway...so...I feel like w the Dentons I have found the perfect balance.
 
I think it's a bit odd that some folks have a negative opinion of the Dentons. They sound so awesome to my ears...I just can't gather where the "boring", "dull", "missing mid-range" comments come from at all. They are certainly much more lively that the Elac B6s were...maybe not as much bass...but I don't miss that. I had the Pioneer BS22s for years...as good as they were (are), they also do not compare w the Dentons...not even close. Had my best buddy over a few weeks ago for a night of audio...he was floored just as I have been with the beautiful, detailed, silky and warm presentation of the Dentons. Someone commented earlier that perhaps folks were being tricked by their beautiful mahogany looks into thinking they sound good...I would proffer the opposite..I think perhaps some folks have a negative opinion of Wharfedale in general and bring that into their listening. Further, perhaps some of those folks are used to speakers with ultra hi-def high frequencies that very well may sound great with video games and movies, but might present basic stereo listening with too much sibilance for my taste. Anyway...not criticizing others' opinions...I just honestly cannot fathom how anyone could not like these speakers. :)

I'm extremely happy with my Dentons . My only negative is that I didn't get two pairs . I don't hear any of that midrange suckage that some have commented on . They sound excellent with everything I play on them , be it music or movies ,I don't feel like I'm missing anything throughout the audio range . With the Elacs ,It was like I was losing my hearing . Strangely enough though , the Elacs sound pretty good at my daughter's new house .
 
I thought the Elacs were pretty good speakers esp for the price. Different sound than the Dentons...but had I stuck w the Elacs, I would have been happy for the most part. They did cost half of what the Dentons did so it makes sense. I think one thing was that the Elacs were a bit more sensitive to the source material than the Dentons. The Dentons do add a touch of silky warmness to everything which makes the sound much more pleasant to my ears. I think the Elacs were slightly more dynamic and reactive to what was being played through them..so...if it was a really dynamic source, they sounded awesome, if not, they sounded as good as what was played. Also, a tad bit of ring to the Elacs...absolutely none w the Dentons. The mahogany cabinets are top notch.
 
I know I'm one of the people that many think have a poor opinion of the Dentons. I want to clarify. I like the Dentons and they have many strong points — especially looks and build quality. I'm being hyper critical when I voice my opinion.

I compared them directly to Kef LS50's, Salk Songtowers, and my Philharmonic 3's. Those speakers are $1500, $2k+, and $4k+ respectively. I know people like to say the Wharfie's are $1000 speakers, but honestly, I don't even remember a time they weren't being sold for $500... Even when pretty new.

I think they are a good speaker at their pricepoint, and it's not easy to find a competitor in that pricerange. There are a couple speakers that personally I would own first. But at the under $1k pricepoint (new) you could do a lot worse than the Dentons.

Fair enough there...can't argue with any of that...have not heard the other speakers, but I'm sure at that price point they would excel. Being an entry level fella, the Dentons are the best that I've owned...I'm sure most folks on the forum have me beat by a long-shot. But I'm happy... :-)

As long as you're happy that truly is all that matters. Like I said, for the money they are a quality speaker. Enjoy them!

I've heard a lot of good things about the KEFs. See them mentioned in TAS magazine, Stereophile..etc... if I had the $, I would be interested in hearing them at some point. Another speaker that sounds like my kind of sound are Quads.
 
I would like to hear some thoughts or first hand experiences with the Dentons and the new Elac Uni-Fi UB5 speakers.
 
I'd like to see a review of the Uni-Fi speakers in general. From what I've seen of them, they sound like quite a step up from the Debut series.

Hi there,
I am actually thinking about buying a pair of the Elac B6 to replace my old Polk Monitor 7s if I cannot get them fixed. Unfortunately, I have not found a reasonable place where I can listen to the Elacs in an environment which would make sense. An acquaintance suggested a pair of used B&W dm602s as a further alternative. How have the Elacs worked out for you?
 
I have passed the Elacs on to my daughter . She is enjoying them in her new house . I replaced the Elacs with Wharfedale Dentons and I couldn't be happier. The Elacs didn't work for me possibly because of the small room I was using them in . My daughter has the Elacs in her living room and they sound a lot better there than in my bedroom .

My listening room isn't all that big (I think its 12x14). I am moving things around a little (well as soon as my husband gets back from his business trip to help me with the furniture). To make it a little more friendly as I am adding a small desk as well.
 
If you can , try a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 . I have a pair for my computer setup coupled with a vintage Yamaha CA 410ii . I like the Wharfedales way more than I liked the Elacs . Sound is more detailed and lively and the build quality is a few notches above the Elacs ( in my opinion ) .
 
I've also been considering the Elac B5 or B6....the YouTube demo of the B5 at CES was incredible. But my main issue is, I really love a speaker which has tons of midrange punch without sacrificing vocal clarity and control. I'm not sure the Elac B5 or B6 will be punchy enough ? but I'm pretty sure they will have the vocal clarity ? Any opinions on how these ELAC Debut series would sound or match up with a Marantz SR9300...
