Wharfedale Denton vs. Elac B6

I am...like you, been searching for a speaker that is a good match for my system, my needs, and gives me a taste of hi-fi w/out breaking the bank. Based on everyone's reviews, I am hoping that the Dentons are the ones. :-) One more day...
 
I found a medium density foam floor mat yesterday at Home Depot . The gray color matched the Denton grills . I cut it with an exacto knife to fit the bottoms of my speakers . Now I don't have to worry about scratches underneath my speakers . Not a bad deal for 10 bucks .
 
Good idea. My stands have little pads in the corner that accomplish that, so I should be good. Going to be interesting to compare the Elacs w the Dentons...I think I've narrowed the listening selections down to tracks from the following:
The Church - Heyday (this is an older CD...want to see how each speaker presents this)
David Sylvian - Dead Bees on a Cake (This was one of the CDs that had some sibilance on the Elacs) (the other was Patrick Wolf - The Bachelor...again...I determined that the sibilance was present on the discs themselves, so not the Elacs' fault)
The Beatles - 1+ (Great sounding new remixes of these classic songs...esp. Penny Lane)
XTC - Skylarking (corrected polarity edition) (Great album w lots of background sounds)
 
Dentons arrived this evening...listening to them now for the first time. First impressions: warm, inviting, detailed, natural...very nice...I like the sound of them very much and they look beautiful. Vocals and strings sound particularly sweet. I actually hear a little more detail to the music than w the Elacs because there is a bit less bass so it doesn't cover the details up. While I think for many the Elacs might be the preference because they play wider, larger, and more dynamic, for me, the Dentons are sweeter and more sensual. I am going to give it a few more days before I make a decision, but I think I have found my speaker. :-)

lol, congratulations on your new Denton "vintage" modern set, look definitely beautiful, soundwise not the best in resolution, but very very forgiving and rock n roll excited speakers, the bass may not so dynamic, but at pretty loud volume I suppose it's enough to entertain the heart. Looking forward to the comparisons with Elac Debut B6, must be more dynamic then?
 
No doubt, the Elacs are a bigger, more dynamic sound... however, they are less forgiving and occasionally can be sharp and sparkly if the source is so inclined. So far, all I've heard from the Dentons is a polite, warm, inviting, natural presentation. The Elacs are a terrific and an amazing entry level speaker.

Your experience matches mine. Still quite pleased each time I listen. These just seem to work for my tired old ears.
 
Another nice evening w them...listened to two CDs...they both sounded very good. Hearing sounds in the tracks I had not heard before. Also, some soundstage presenting itself...a couple of times it sounded like a sound was in another room.... cool. So far, I would not call these speakers "dark" at all...slightly warm, mid range is emphasized a bit (vocals and strings are prominent), bass/percussion is tight and punchy... it presents itself as a well mannered slightly elegant speaker.

I absolutely agree !
 
I completely could see why a certain segment would prefer the B6's. They are more dramatic in their presentation...way more bass and more muscular. While I do appreciate that, I think that the Dentons present a more natural, somewhat livelier sound that is more fun.
 
I would also add that the Denton's enclosure is much heavier and solid feeling and frankly, seems much classier than the Elac's. of course, as noted, the Dentons cost twice as much so no big surprise there....
 
My time w the Elacs has passed...I've had to send them back to Amazon, so a direct comparison from me won't happen. Sorry guys! I am very happy w the Dentons. I'm having a buddy over this evening to get his take on them. I think the B6's are awesome speakers...it comes down to individual taste. I enjoyed them while I had them...and thought that they were a significant step up from he BS22's (for the most part).
 
My time to send the Elacs back is way past . I'll be gifting the Elacs to my daughter who will be moving into her new home in a couple of months.
 
Wow! My buddy and I put the Dentons through their paces last night...5 hours of non-stop listening and boy did they shine. Numerous times our jaw dropped when we heard sounds we had never heard before in songs that we have known for years. The overall presentation was lively, natural, well balanced, silky to the ear, and inviting. It was the most enjoyable evening of listening to music on my own system that I've ever had. Since I am an entry level guy, my perspectives are limited, but... while I have in the past owned a pair of Vienna Acoustics Beethovens (most incredible soundstage I've heard) I really cannot imagine anyone not liking these speakers. The worry that they are too polite or boring or dull I just do not get or hear at all...I think the Dentons make the Pioneer BS22's sound dull and clouded. Anyway...good times over this way. I am very happy with the Dentons and plan to have them as my main speaker for years to come. :-)
 
I am still loving the Dentons. I have been sick the past two weeks and have been out of the loop. The more I listen to them, the more surprised I am that they are not lauded more than they are. Such sweet sound...clear, articulate, balanced...Dark, how do the 10.1s compare? Just curious cause I remember you noted before how much you like them.

I have the Diamond 10.1s connected to my vintage Yamaha CA 410 II . If I was forced to pick a favorite at gunpoint , id take the Dentons only because they look better and have a better build build quality . I think the Diamonds and Dentons have a similar sound with the Dentons going a bit deeper . The Diamonds are being used with my computer set up along with a Sony Blu-ray disc player and a HiFiMeDiy Sabre Tiny DAC . Im loving this set up . The Dentons are being used in my bedroom system with My Yamaha A S501 and a Sony DVD / CD player . Both sets of speakers are keepers and unless I win the lotto , im done searching . I have been concentrating more on the music than on the gear . By the way , the Dentons sound great with movies !
