What are your hopes for the 2025 NFL season

Loved that Seahawks game last night. I was busy until just about the end of the 3rd quarter and after I turned it on, I almost turned it back off. Glad I didn't :).

As far as halftime shows, I was pretty excited about the Kendrick Lamar one last year and I don't think it disappointed. I think of him as sort of the Bob Dylan of our time. Lots of people disliked Bob too.

And now the NFL coach's version of musical chairs begins!

The Cardinals showed Mr. Gannon the door. They have really struggled to find a good head coach after Bruce Arians "retired".

And the Ravens let John Harbaugh go after 18 seasons. But this was after a fairly poor performance this year, and a game losing missed field goal in their last game.

(curiously quiet after wild card weekend) what a bonkers weekend. hoping for more, .... and terrible weather. 'tis the most wonderful time of the year.

I am also hoping the my wife survives the Bears' next game, I don't think she can take much more of their last-minute antics.

And Tomlin's gone. I've been a lifelong Steelers fan. Seems like they have a GM problem, not a coaching problem. For this year I'm rooting for the Seahawks (probably the hug of death).

Wouldn't it be funny if John Harbaugh ends up in Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin is hired by Baltimore? Chances are higher than they would seem.
There's probably a chance, and I agree it's higher than it might usually be. The Steelers I grew up liking were good at finding new talent that was hungry to win. Now they just go after a few big name/big salary players and muddle through. So a Harbaugh hire fits with that model. I don't think it'll help them though.

I've read that Lamar has become a handful in the clubhouse. He skips a day of practice per week and he falls asleep in meetings. If any of that is true, Tomlin is the only coach big enough to influence him.

Tomlin was a pushover and got punked by his players* time & time again, Lamar would walk all over him and Tomlin would let him if it means winning games.

James Harrison purposely falling a sleep in team meetings, nothing done about it

Leveon Bell & Legarrete Blount caught smoking weed after being pulled over on their way to catch a team flight, they both played in that game

Antonio Brown, where do I even start with the all BS he pulled and got away with.

George Pickens showing up late for practices, late for team buses and eventually a Christmas day game against the Chiefs with Tomlin feigning that he wasn't aware that he showed up late, which was nonsense. He wound up playing that game, the final one of the season and the playoff game.

Melvin Ingram purposely not showing up for team functions

Jeff "Skippy" Reed notorious rager/party boy was constantly getting into documented off field nightlife trouble but he was a good kicker so coach T and the organization put up with it.

The mantra is "Players love playing for Coach T", based on respect but I honestly believe they like/liked playing for him because they weren't held accountable.

Disciplining players was NOT his strong suite

This is kinda what I meant with them having a GM problem, not a coaching problem. The coach has to do the best he can with what the GM gives him. We could add DK Metcalf to this list, and the revolving door of over the hill QBs. Personally I don't know that NFL coaches should need to discipline players. If they're pros, they should be in it to win it and if they're not, the GM should find players that are. I think they're hiring the wrong players. That's just like my opinion though.

Not being argumentative and I kinda agree with your point, the current GM is/was a patsy, he was primarily, a behind the scenes, money guy, contract negotiator, administrator with little to no experience as a talent evaluator prior to being promoted to GM.

It was Tomlin who chose Kenny Picket, He had a LOT of say, if not more than Omar Khan, when it came to who was drafted, acquired etc

Big Ben had two reap allegations and got preferential treatment later in his career. True, Tomlin was not a disciplinarian but it is arguable that the modern NFL player does not respond to discipline and Tomlin knew this. Can Tomlin handle Lamar? Lamar got paid and turned out to be less of a leader than anyone thought. This being said, Tomlin has a far better chance of fixing Lamar than anyone else. Tomlin is the ultimate babysitter which is exactly what Pittsburgh needed and exactly what Lamar needs.
