One would be DBX, with their cheap switches and volume controls. Another would be Crown tape decks. Their electronics and cheap heads just can't handle Low noise High output tapes. I don't like Shure, AKG, Altec,dynamic mics. AT condenser mics aren't great either. Anything Yamaha makes that has a mechanical component, Nad, too. Early thorens turn tables are just to noisy with high rumble and compromised W&F. Ampex Home series 1000 and 2000 decks are fun to fix, but I would never own one. MY F-4460 was a pain to keep running as was an AG 500/PR-10 and two Model 300. But once you got the 300 series operating they made some fabulous recordings. I'll never own another A-77 Revox with all the plastic parts. Ortofon cartridges aren't my favorites either. The only decent Shure cartridge was the V-15 V Mr. Stantons weren't the best either, with AT just not being my cup of tea. Pickering were even worse. I do like a few Ortofons, but don't buy one till you have auditioned it. Out of the 30+ I had maybe 2 or 3 were worth keeping. I own 3 Dynavectors and auditioned 3 more and would be happy with any of them. Early Mcintosh electronics were the standard back in the 60's, but tubes just never did it for me. The only exception being the MC 3500/350/ If I win the lottery I would at least have to own a 1/2 dozen. I'm not very fond of Oriental Hifi gear. Though I have some Elite Pioneer stuff that is pretty good/ Love my Plasmas. If I had my druthers the only head phones I would own would be made by STAX. I like a few Sennheisers middle priced units for over the ear sealed type. It would be fun to audition one of the top of the Line Clear Audio and Bergman turntables. Having the latest SME might be fun. or a VPI Titan with the big Bergman linear tone arm. Technics and I have had a rocky relationship. I guess because I installed so many I should have expected some issues. I do love the SP 10 series. And would love to try a SL 1000R with a big Clear audio Linear arm. Magneplanar. 'll need to add super tweeters or look for the last models with Z tweeters. Any the models in less than 5 cu ft enclosures I would stay away from. The only Klipsch I really like is a Cornwall, though I haven't heard a forte III yet. Klipschorns with a Bell in the center voiced with room EQ are fun. But I would have to have another system for serious listening. I like Magicos highs and most of the midrange but the area from 150 to 600 hz isn't quite right and I don't like what I hear below 60HZ. I won't talk about Mcintosh's latest speakers. My favorite is the older XR 290 and a XRT 28 with a room EQ to fix the 500 to 1500 hz region. I like the old 808 B&W and the Snell A7 Illusion. But other wise you can have the rest. JBL, what can I say: I like or love the 4435, want to hear DD67000 seriously, I'd love to have a Paragon, but it would need serious updating. You can keep the rest. I would love to have 3 Urei 813's in a home style enclosures. Four Altec 817 with 927 woofers 311 horn with 291 drivers and 4 950 uhf super tweeters would make a great 4 channel out door system. You can keep everything else Altec ever made.
