What Audio Brand That You Will Never Buy And Why?

However, I will never buy any of Audio Note(UK) products because they stole the name from Mr.Kondo, it's not fair for a guy who designed & build the Audio Note products from the ground, it is a shame that Kondo San did not pursue this in the British courts. He would have won easily.

I'm a fan of Mr.Kondo for his works and design philosophy, I'm just remembering him while 10th anniversary of his death approaching in January 8th.

I agree whole heartedly about Audio Note UK. I don't care how good their products might sound, there are other choices out there that I like and would be fine.

There are no brands that I can think of at the moment, that I would rule out ever owning. Why would anyone do that anyway? You can't know what a company may come out with tomorrow or next year that may be drool-worthy. And to the dude who would never own NAD or Bose...I guess I'm your worst nightmare! :smoke:

Yeah, my dad made a few questionable choices when it came to getting me stuff when I was a kid too. But it came from a good place, so what I did was, I smiled and was grateful, and then I went out and mowed lawns and raked leaves and washed cars so I could afford what I REALLY wanted.
 
Nothing is off the table for me if the price is right. Hell I've even brought home plastic boomboxes. Antennas, feet, knobs switch covers, remotes and so on are all good stuff on those units that some people won't bring home.
 
I feel like I'm probably in the "anything goes if it's at a decent price" camp, however it would likely take a pretty good deal to jump on some Bose stuff...not really anything having to do with sound, etc. but rather I just never really found myself fond of how most of their stuff looks...that doesn't count the 1801 power amp, which I would absolutely love to have.
 
I have to agree with a couple other posters in that i can't think of a brand that i would write off entirely as a brand.

I wouldn't give a cup of piss for an Adcom preamp or most Carver preamps. But, i wouldn't write off either as a brand as they both made some other excellent, and time proven products.

I try to be careful about knocking these brands too much. No, i don't own any, and didn't have stock in any of the companies.

But, those brands helped perpetuate the music industry as a whole. They significantly helped drive the recorded music market thru the 70's and early 80's. They brought music to millions who would have otherwise probably gone without.

For an artist, producer, or engineer the royalty they receive is completely unaffected by the quality of your gear or how it sounds.
 
As far as what I won't buy I guess price is really the main determining factor.And of course if it's junk ( Yorx, Thrusters etc.)
 
I don't think there's anything that I wouldn't take home out of hand. I'd even bring a Yorx system home if I knew someone who needed a beater system for their garage or shop. If it's doing the job you need it to do who cares what name is on the front?
 
I'm also something of an equal opportunity consumer. Time makes a good filter for absolute trash, so its rare that I come across something that is just so outright awful that its not worth any consideration at all. There is a lot of stuff I'd pass on, but there aren't many things I'd pass on only because of the brand name on the front. I've owned a number of things over the years that "everyone says is crap" and had no trouble out of it. I've also owned a number of things that "everyone says is amazing" and thought it was an utter POS.

I couldn't afford a "ClubMaster" audio mixer... so I got this "non-regionally" produced mixer, back when.

It lasted until dust, dirt or common elements of man started getting to it. From there it was dooooownnnnhill!

But I rather enjoyed those bright LEDs... I think they got me with the LEDs..... Yes, that's it ;)
 
Sony! Somewhere around 1985 we purchased our 1st compact disc player. It died within 3 weeks. It took 3 months to get it repaired, therefore we avoid Sony products whenever possible.
 
interesting thread, Sony, I have some older Sony stuff in my garage that I like a lot this amp IE:

However, many other newish Sony items have left me a bit cold.

NAD, I have three NAD products, the vintage 3150, that I got for free, is an excellent performer. The two older NAD tuners I have are respectable. and the new D3020 dac amp is singing right now, very nicely.
As for complete lack of interest in a brand, I might agree on Bose based on side by side comparisons, but they are not at the basic level Yorx, Soundesign, Thrusters, Emerson,etc. As for some of the experiences I have had, Yamaha is a brand I have had both good and bad experiences with, my old CR-2040 is still a good performer, however my AX-570 integrated while sounding good, has some channel distortion even since being serviced, kind of makes me wonder being the 2040 is so much older. Also I bought a set of Yamaha pc speakers, they sounded great, until the pc board connectors went bad, and I found they were not repairable. So while I like a bit of Yamaha products( I have three Yamaha guitars) their audio has been hit and miss for me.
