They look like Wharfedale W-70s. these were avail with different cabinets and grilles, but the pair I picked up for Chip looked exactly like that except the wood was lighter with a dry oil finish and light colored grilles. Same cutouts in the grille frame too. His are W-70D speakers.

Not JBL's. I was a JBL speaker repair tech from 1976 to 1981. During my training at JBL's Northridge CA factory, I had a chance to see many vintage JBL speaker systems. Not sure what they are, but rule out JBL

now hat i look around that seems like a viable possibility.
the only thing is that i dont see that square cut out on any other pics.

I was dead wrong on the model speaker. I was over at Chip's today and heard the speakers today. Very big sound, efficient, but they are not Wharfedale W70D, they are Wharfedale W70C sorry about that. The C is a 3 way the D looks to be a 4 driver speaker but the rear panel has only two pots on it.

They are indeed Wharfdale W70Ds, I have a pair exactly like them.
Sand filled cabinets and efficient. Good Luck!
