What Do you All think of Electro Static Speakers

Heard the Sanders and they are excellent...biggest issue with stats IMHO is the placement followed by the equipment driving them. I have ML CLZ2z/Benchmark DAC2/Bryston 14BSST/Depthi Sub...moving the speakers 1 inch to or fro changes the sound more than most amplifier changes I have tried!

I like the look of the Sanders products but hate the look of his website. Having been a long time Denver resident I'm surprised I never heard of Sanders. I actually had a friend who lived in Conifer.

Sanders started out making DIY stats and writing articles about his efforts for Audio Amateur. Long time ago, 1970s.

If you get a copy of the "Audio Amateur Loudspeaker Projects" book you'll have Sanders' DIY articles and also some DIY stat articles by David Hermeyer. And a cool article about building a monstrous transmission line for the Hartley 24" woofer; the fella used it with Quad ESLs.

^^^I believe that Hartley also made a 36" Woofer; tiny though, compared to the Mighty Diatone!:

Out of curiosity, have you ever had an opportunity to listen to any di-poles at all? Or, for that matter, Bi-poles like Mirage M1s,M2s, etc? If not, you should really try and check some out, I think you might be impressed with how much of the "omni" sound is really reflected back-wave. Without so much output to the sides, panels can actually be much easier to place in a room than an omni.

I do like omnis for their open sound, but I find a similar affect with bi-poles & di-poles without as many room placement issues. Of course most omnispherical speakers sold today do use at least SOME radiation control, so are not "true" omnis anyway. Speakers like Ohm's current line and your Mirages for example, are very easy to get well set up, that wasn't at all the case with any of the fully (or nearly) omnidirectional speakers like Ohm Fs, or Walcott Omnispheres.

The bipole/dipole speakers I ever got to hear were the ones Radio Shack was making around the mid 90s. They were okay. I would want to hear some better ones before making an assessment.

Thanks, never heard of Sanders. Definitely like his honesty
Honest perhaps, but clueless when it comes to interconnects. I fell out of my chair laughing when I read the *test methodology* found in this white paper.

I've duplicated and measured the results elsewhere. If you need a link, I'd be happy to provide it.

I admire the way Sanders make a virtue of a necessity: his pitch that narrow dispersion is to be preferred.
The other Roger who builds electrostats, however, found a way around that "necessity" with controlled directivity.
