Meridian G02

The Meridian G02 features true dual-mono construction and provides seven two-channel analogue inputs: four unbalanced, and three balanced on XLRs. The G02 is balanced internally throughout: unbalanced inputs are immediately electronically balanced for maximum quality throughout the signal chain.

The G02 features a specially-designed dual differentially-balanced volume control circuit. This ensures perfect stereo tracking and full frequency range performance at all volume levels. I don't have the optional phono card, I use an external phono preamp.

I love the unit, it's so silky and good looking, thought I can't say I get the most of it, as I am always changing the speakers, usually not the best of the lines, but I like them none the less, such as Polk 7A, ADS L570-II, NHT Model 1, etc, I do have a nice pair of B&W 805 Matrix and if I just left them in place I am sure I would be singing the praises for the G02, but they have been mothballed while I try everything else I can get my paws on.

A Thoebe, with Mike Bettinger one-of-a-kind phono stage. Class A line amp, too.

It's made by a vintage company called...

(you guessed it)...

G.A.S.

My main preamp is the Classé CP-50 with the CP50/CP60 MM/MC phono board, originally $3,295 MSRP.

I have a Klyne 6L. A preamp from the mid '90s with an excellent phono stage (one of the better phono stages out there, IMHO). I've compared it to several high-end modern preamps and its one of the few older preamps that I think hold up. And in many cases, it beats the more current pres I've tried.

The only way to tell if your preamp is what you'd consider "high end" is to go out and listen to a bunch of other preamps that are considered by others to be high-end. I'll be honest...to me, most but not all pre-1990s preamps do not stand up to modern standards of transparency, clarity, detail, soundstage, and just getting out of the way and sounding like nothing is there (but gain). There are exceptions to every gross generalization of course....

This is what the Klyne looks like on the inside. There's a lot of attention to detail in this thing.

Wow! I'd be tempted to run that with the top off! A beauty inside. Just wiring those RCAs must have taken ages.

They had an option with a plexiglass top. She's a beaut and a work of industrial art. So is that Luxman! I have a 5C-50 but your Lux is prettier.

I have a C-1010... not sure what the difference is but I whatever photography skills (or lack thereof) I have are meager in comparison to your shot. Love it!

Not sure, but maybe they removed the touch mute on yours? It is a bit of a PITA sometimes.

No photog skills, just the kit lens on the Oly u4/3rds camera, a tripod, stop down to f11 or so for DOF, and shoot next to a north-facing window. This one actually looked crappy, so I had to convert it to B&W to make it presentable. Brushed metal can be a pain to capture, due to all the reflections.

Threshold T3 with upgraded caps and diodes. The motorized volume was also replaced with a good quality potentiometer. My phono amp is an ARC PH3 with a Cinemag SUT.

The Aragon 18k, a very minimalistic active MOSFET preamp, with external power supply, low output impedance and enough power to drive some rather demanding headphones.
