What I learned on Craigslist

I was laughing last night when I saw "Price $200 firm OBO, not open to offers." Uh, what? Did you not know what "OBO" means?

I'd be willing to bet that he does not know what "OBO" means, but that wasn't enough to stop him from putting it in his ad.

I learned that you can mock eBay/CL gear flippers anonymously!
Obnoxious CL post
Original text for when this ad expires: "Stereos wanted - $999 (Your house)

Hello, I'm looking for really stupid people that want to sell their used electronics really really cheap and have no idea their worth. I may pay up to a penny on the dollar
if you're lucky and I'm feeling generous. That's what I do. I'm a low baller when it comes to buying and a high baller when it comes to selling. I buy low and sell high. Only I may be do that because I'm VERY special. (my mom told me so).
Please sell me your high end audio components for pennies. I especially want McIntosh and Vintage Fisher with tubes. I want all original tubes too. I take them out and replace them with Chinese and Russian crap. I sell the tubes separately. I also list Sansui for highly inflated prices but don't ever sell the stuff. How many weeks can I list the same thing over and over until it doesn't sell, again?
I have a few pairs of Bose 901 speakers that I sell for more than retail and then charge extra for the equalizer even though they don't work w/o it. When I buy them I tell you they are worthless w/o them too to.
Please call me and sell me your stuff cheap, don't think it's worth my time to come look at it unless you all but give to to me. When I'm done screwing you if you've been good I'll let you lick my butt.

If you're offended by this, good. For the rest of us, we are all laughing at you."

That was so funny, I used it in our area....
Got some interesting response posts.:uzi:

I learned that every gmail address that asks if *the item* still available is going to follow up with I'll send you a check and include more money to take it off CL now, and I'll have my shipper pick it up.

I've learned today that if you're looking for a pair of speakers for let's say your basement don't even bother to reply to this ad:

"FISHER STV-853 LIVING ROOM SPEAKERS
12" WIDE 13" DEEP X 34" HIGH
A little bit dusty but work great!

Originally listed on 8/6.
$100.00 OR BEST OFFER"

I have learned that smashed in dustcaps do not affect the sound at all!! I also learned that replacement RS woofers work just as goo and even better than the original woofers....

I have also learned that when I say I want them/ it, I will be by later to get them/ it does not mean when you get there the SOB has not sold them to a person offering more money. When I say I would have liked a phone call tell me they/ it were sold & saving me a 50 mile trip they get angry at ME!!

CL absolutely brings out the worst in the most....

If you find someone who has posted a wanted ad, be sure to email them with what they're looking for - then as soon as they reply and mention they can come out literally the next day, tell them someone is already on their way to look at what you just offered them and gave them no chance to look at before telling someone else about it.

Be sure to sell the most valuable and worthwhile things in an entire lot of equipment you're offering too, then tell the person you just contacted you sold those things and now just have all the valueless trash the other person didn't buy (Gotta admit, those vintage Pioneer reverbs are probably a gold mine though...). This is a true story ofc, I told the emailer they just sold the two most valuable things in their lot and one was a rare black face version receiver...I'm betting they got $50 for stuff they could've gotten their entire lot asking price for.

Little known fact about ADS

I found out via a seller on that popular auction site (not Craigslist) that ADS speakers are made by Luxman.

I found a posting titled "ADS by Luxman L400 Speakers", so I could not resist sending the following email to the seller....

"ADS speakers are not made by Luxman. They are manufactured by Analog and Digital Systems."

And here is their reply...

"I believe the where owned by luxman"

I stand corrected....not.

I learned the words VINTAGE VERY RARE describe the YORX GRANDEUR DUAL CASSETTE AM/FM STEREO KARAOKE MACHINE!

But to be fair, he's only asked $20.00 for it.

Looking at ads for furniture, I learned that “Solid Oak” means that the space under the veneer isn’t just left empty, it’s filled with particle board.
