Today's peeve-
Swapping cell phones. Why does it have to be such a pain in the ass?
Sometimes, SOMETIMES, when I get a new phone, I just go to my carrier's web site, punch in the new IMEI, and viola, the new phone is active. But probably 75% of the time I have to call the broken-english call center to have some remote voodoo performed. Sometimes the phone isn't eligible for the plan I am on, so I have to change plans. Today, I had to actually drive to a store to pick up a different sim card (even though I double-checked that the new phone took the same type of sim card as my old phone). No, just because it fits doesn't mean diddly-dick, apparently. Got the new sim card, and it works now. BUT! Once it was on the network, the damn carrier started loading TONS of BS apps. One right after the next. I had to go in and uninstall them all.
Oh, and every phone-swapping app I have ever tried doesn't work (to my expectations, anyway). This latest one copied my contacts and my apps, but no app settings, so I had to set up every single app over again. Accounts, pins, etc. Good lord. It took like two full days of futzing around just to make this phone a suitable replacement for my old one.
I don't know why people look forward to getting new phones. Yeah, I like having a new gadget, but I DREAD the activation process, and triggering my OCD about putting all the apps where they "belong" and making them function the way I am used to them functioning on the old phone.
