What is YOUR pet peeve? Let's have a laugh.

NH-MAN is right on, to us old farts a hack was a repair that today would be called a "Kludge", the ol "fixed it with bailing wire & chewing gum" ...... ;)
In addition to hack and kludge", there was also a now less than politically correct term used - I'll just say "minority rigged". Just use what is at hand to make it work long enough to get the job done.

[QUOTE="invaderzim, post: If they’d enforce merging laws and ticket people,
Thanks for your statement invaderzim.

But
This gets me more as a Pet Peeve than people that never learned the rules of the Road.
Stepping back into Big rig driving, after a 40 yr long career change,
I just don't let stupid driving effect my state of mind, as I prepare to deal with the next condition I will encounter.
Especially when moving 80,000 pounds.
Making new laws, Rules and harsher enforcement,
Never fixes anything, except making things worse for those that do follow the Rules.[/QUOTE]

It would be nice if they made it a bit harder to get a license. It is ironic that, at least here, they took it out of the high school so it is no longer the civics teacher that does it, now it is private companies and the drivers are worse than ever.

My thinking is if they start enforcing the laws and it costs people money then maybe they will remember next time and even gripe about it to other people and word will get out. Within the last few year here the California stop went from almost coming to a complete stop at the sign to blowing through it at 20-30 mph. I got dashcam footage of a cop stopping 3 feet into the intersection because he wasn't going to stop until he saw me coming up at the side.

Stupid should hurt and if the only way to make it hurt is financially then so be it.

"Right, right, right"

and

"Yeah, yeah, yeah".

Not sure when that started but I hear them all the time.

I'm over it.

Although the yeah version is decidedly more positive than the previous version of the same 3 word repetitive saying.

The car companies kinda screwed that one up... General MOTORS corp, , American MOTORS Corporation, Ford MOTOR Corporation, & so on ;)

Now, in the future when they've finally made the move to all electric powertrains, then the names will fit (except for poor ol AMC, of course) :D

Motors are electric. Engines run on fuel.
Of course they are but the drag racing guys, such as Street Outlaws, interchange engine and motor seemingly when big CID's and big HP's enter into the discussion.

JJ campaigned Ole Heavy for years with a 632 cubic-inch Chevy motor

There's also an outfit called gmperformancemotor (dot) com that sells what you'd expect but on their website all their engines are called engines and not motors as you might expect because of their name.
Also race or performance cars can be described as "all motor" meaning no power adders like N2O or super/turbo chargers.

How about a "cotton 'gin".

'gin = engine.

It didn't power anything, the machine was the engine.

...and IIRC the first ones didn't burn any fuel, unless you count being pulled by horses.

Oh it's a cluster for sure. Outboard engines on boats have always been described as outboard "motors". Yes the ricers have been throwing around "all motor" for many years now, but keep in mind they also use the term NAWS for Nitrous Oxide. I would not want to emulate anything they have to say. Can you say fart cannons and park bench rear spoiler? :jump:

Activists.

Guys at the gym who take selfies in the locker room mirrors. Last week two clowns brought a tripod into the locker room and started filming themselves. I went to the desk and got one of the slackers who works there to berate them, but signs are posted already. You have a mirror at home!

I've been a gym rat most of my adult life, but now workout in my office or at home. When I was a Gold's member, I referred to them as "Mirror Monkeys". I tended to be more on the powerlifter side of the equation, instead of the "I'm eating nothing but steamed broccoli and skinless chicken breast" mirror monkeys. I did, and still do, respect their dedication I just never got in to the body builder mentality. :dunno:

When folks on TV or radio quote someone (usually someone they're criticizing) they'll start the paraphrase with "oh" even though no one starts a statement with "oh"
