What is YOUR pet peeve? Let's have a laugh.

Is it just my area or are other places recessing the manhole covers on the streets? I've been driving for 58 years and I don't remember having to play Dodge the Manhole Cover until the last few years. They just paved a section of road near me and every cover is down about 3 or 4 inches below street level. I have very few brain cells left so I don't want to lose them smashing my head as I run the gauntlet.

Laziness and/or cost cutting. Not removing and reinstalling the manhole cover framework rings, to raise them to the new pavement level, is a lot less work.

Unless people start to sue (and win) and it gets where it costs more to pay for people's damaged cars, than to replace the manhole surrounds- this practice will likely continue.

Regards,
Gordon.

Telling a story to someone in my wife’s presence and she corrects some null point of it. Why do they do that?
Today it was “maybe 5 or 6 years I blah blah blah…” and at the stories end she says “how long ago did you say” and I repeat “maybe 5 or 6 years ago” and she says “ no it wasn’t, it was maybe 10”.
BFD! That has NO BEARING ON THE STORY!

I hate that. I consider it a rude form of sniping someone.

Sometimes I will lose decorum in a conversation when that happens and I will look at ‘fact checker’ and say, “Doesn’t change the story.”

Then, I’m either allowed to leave the area or the storyteller is allowed to finish his or her story in peace.

Nope.

I've determined it's "low bid" contractors.
Some know how to expertly make transitions from pothole patches, entire new road sections, new turn lanes, manholes, etc.
Some do not.

Here, there's a LOT of small sections where the first layer of asphalt is chipped away.
VERY easy to avoid, and sometimes small enough for the tire to not drip in.
However, they patch them and leave the patch 6 inches wider on each side, and 2 inches taller.
Now they're extremely difficult to avoid without intruding into the next lane, and will jar the living tar out of you if you don't brace before hitting them.

There are manhole riser rings available at the height you need to raise individual covers. If you overlay 2” of new asphalt, simply remove the cover, drop the riser into the manhole frame, then drop the cover into the riser. Easy peasy.
They’re not free but they ARE necessary.

The very definition of penny wise and pound foolish! Time to ask someone what the HELL are they thinking.

People that HAVE to get in front of me on the highway instead of just tucking in behind me.
I love it when they try to get in front of you and then drive 25MPH slower than everyone else.

How about the guy who's driving 15MPH in front of you, and it takes 15 minutes to finally pass him. ONLY to find him in front of you, at the signal at the off-ramp!

:wtf:

My cellphone did an update, and I'm not even talking about a recent update, this one happened last year. It's a Samsung Galaxy A25 (I think).

It used to be, when I swiped down from the top, it brought up some settings like Wifi on/off, screen rotation, flashlight, etc. Since the update however, it has changed. Swiping directly down from the top will bring up any alerts from applications. To access the settings mentioned above, you have to swipe diagonally from the top right corner. Invariably, I end up doing the opposite one from the one I meant to do. There's probably a setting to change this, or some other simple solution. But it's still annoying.

Totally agree… but I just had a thought: what if these changes that require us to relearn certain actions, actually keep us focused and further from dementia?

Vacuum packaging with HD Plastic. Hate opening anything that I buy that has that junk on it. Feel like I'm going to cut off a finger. Never seem to get it right.

I've seen a tool available to make opening those easy, probably "as seen on TV". But... you have to get the tool itself open, and the one I saw was in the same plastic you speak of.

I LOVE it when you say "Hi!" to someone, and they stop, look straight at you, then turn and ignore you. As if it's going to cost them money to say Hi!

At work, this was never a problem, but it seems that after COVID, people are just not as friendly (even on a very casual basis).
