I think those are Klipsch Cornwall's (early). They were offered with vertical horns.. I dunno why, but I"m sure someone here does. They look cool.

Cornwall’s are a fairly large speaker. From what I have read, the vertical Cornwall’s were built so they would clear the bottom of a window sill or possibly fit under a piece of furniture in order to more easily integrate into a room. Basically, an early attempt at improving WAF.

Why PWK changed those horns from vertical to horizontal is a mystery to me, seeing as the cabinet was about the same in either case. I wonder if the vertical and horizontal Cornwalls use different midrange horns.

AFAIK they use the same drivers and horns. They were intended to be laid on their sides, or it was expected that many would be laid in their sides, although you wouldn’t know it from the picture. On the back of my vertical Cornwall’s there is a large sticker with an arrow indicating which side of the speaker should be “up” if laid on its side.

Of course, they can be left in the upright position. As @Tom Brennan discussed, I believe the Klipsch horns do have a wider horizontal dispersion when placed in the vertical position. At least that is what I have read elsewhere.

Also, I was under the impression that the cabinets were the same between the verticals and the horizontal mounted drivers and it was only the motor board that was different. I believe Klipsch produced vertical and horizontal mounted driver versions concurrently and one was not a predecessor to the other. I always assumed there was a marketing/production/business reason the vertical driver configuration was only available for a few years. Not 100% sure on any of this though.

Those are cool!!! I would have bet vertical Cornwall’s although the mid tweeter placement is kinda wonky compared to any I have seen.
