The Jackie McLean and Ellington-Mingus-Roach reissues are spectacular. The TP albums give me the complete set of his studio albums (excepting greatest hit compilations). Stevie Nicks in a moment of madness.
Getting to truly love Captain Beefheart. Got a Buddah kaleidoscope copy of Safe As Milk coming in the mail today.
 
Just got back from Wally World. ...not like I don't already have some originals I bought in the 70's but what the hey, it caught me eye! :bye:

The stage was only about 42" off the floor. No barriers. I was leaning against the stage a few times although it was a bit of a crush, not too bad though compared to the craziness nowadays. You could literally touch your favorite rock star. One show I was at was when Sammy Hagar had just left Montrose in '76 or '77. Might've been his first show solo... I think it was actually. The original rock version of Journey opened, then Sammy, then Montrose. Sammy blew Montrose off the stage. He did Bad Motor Scooter and brought out a lap steel guitar and sat on the edge of the stage with his legs hanging over the edge to do the motorcycle sounds at the beginning of the song. People went nuts. I was right there at the front of the stage. We were all patting him on the back. Great show. Montrose looked bummed and wasn't very impressive. Sammy was a hard act to follow that night.

I’m envious of the fact you can remember that. “70’s shows were kinda “smokey” or “hazey”. Luckily, I kept ticket stubs and a list that I’ve recently transferred to a database. Here’s my two Sammy shows:


November 7, 1975 was Black Oak Arkansas, Montrose w/Hagar and Foghat at the Greensboro Colosseum for $5.50.

February 4,1978 was Ted Nugent Golden Earring and Sammy Haggar, again at the Greensboro Colosseum. Price was $8.50


This has nothing to do with Hagar, but compare the acts and ticket price with what they would command later:

Little different today. In PDX you're lucky to get a ticket online for plenty of pesos. If not, expect to pay 2x plenty of pesos from the scalpers who have friends who write code ( or however they end up with tickets).

One venue in town is reasonable AND a good place to see/hear a concert. Caught the Eels and Dolby there and both were a lot of fun.
