What sort of a singer are you?

I sing along with everything, often. I sing alone. I sing while playing my guitar. I sing my own songs. I sing some of my poems. I used to be a horrible singer - now I'm merely bad. I lack range, and my voice is deep, so I have to downshift keys. I've figured out ways to make my singing nearly passable, and some of my friends and family think I do some songs well enough that they make a request once in a blue moon. However, I love to sing. Jumper is my biggest fan, especially when I include his name. In fact, I wrote his favorite song:

Jumper is a big, fat cat
and a big fat cat is he.
He's always on time for breakfast
and he never misses his tea.
He has his brunch two hours 'fore lunch
and a small snack in between.
He's a real fat cat and he doesn't think that
he would ever want to be lean...
'Cause he wants to be just like me.


He's not really fat at all, but he doesn't know that, he just knows it's his song.

Pretty much the same. I play the guitar. The only songs I ever sung at a gig were mostly background punk yells when I was younger and Take It Easy and Joan Jett's version of I Need Someone many years later. We rehearsed More Than Words and I'll Be There For You with me singing the harmony on both but it never happened.

If I could do it all over, I'd be a crooner in a lower range than average.

Ahh, so you make a living singing. How much do the bartenders pay you to stop?

My real heartache is I can't remember lyrics worth a darn.

Lead singer/rythm guitar for about a dozen years in some bar bands and our own rented hall gigs. The guys seemed to think I was good at Fogerty and Mellencamp, So much so,at the time they started calling me J.C. Mellenfogerty. Myself, I gravitated towards Skynyrd and a buddies band wanted me to join up with them to do lead vocals only (they had 3 guitars already) but I prefered to play and sing so that was a no go. Been out of that life for about two decades now. Don't miss it at all, well maybe a teeny bit but playing is over for me due to a stroke.

I sing bass. I start to strain at the A above middle C. I sing the bass part in church. I also sing along with music in the car, usually an octave lower unless I'm listening to Johnny Cash.
