What speaker is this?

I got this speaker without any Logo. I havent gotten around to opening it up. I took some pictures. Maybe someone can identify it for me.

It looks like it could be a Bose 301,maybe?

That's my guess. not sure what series, but I would say very late 70's, possibly early 80's Bose 301. Not sure about their model dates of intro.

There were some Bose clones around the same time. FRM Acoustics perhaps? Some were sold in kit form- I remember seeing some ads in Stereo Review 25 years ago (give or take).

I vote for "clone", too. The 301 (maybe even still is) a decent-sounding speaker. Dunno about cloned 301's.

The Micro Acoustic clone had the tweeter on a paddle so you could actually aim it, so that isn't an MA.

Second that. The flat circle in the center of the dustcap, is a dead giveaway of a Bose woofer. Nobody else used that, IME.

Also, those grillles are definitely Bose...

Well some of the Infinities had the dust cover with a flat center section. But is that actually a flat section, or is it a hole for venting? I can't tell from the photo. But bobbing around in my memory is a below 301 model -- 201 or 101, which had a simpler tweeter mounting. So I suspect its actually a Bose.

I know one version of the 301's had two tweeters that sat up on posts like the 601's, aimed front and back and a slot port between the woofer and tweeter. It's possible that is a 201 model. The question is, did the 201's have 8" or 6.5" woofers?

Looks like a 201 to me too...the 301 had a pair of "tweeters" firing out!

Just from looking at pics on the net, I'd say 301s. The 201s have a smaller divide between the grille sections.

I'm saying Bose 201. The 101 was a single, wide range in a plastic box. I have a pair of 301 Series II that I'm trying to unload. They have the dual tweets. If Series II had dual-tweeters I don't think the originals would have only a single. And a port.

Original 301's have one tweeter that sits in the cab and has a plastic 'vent' or 'vane' that sat over the tweeter. The vent was used to aim the tweeters output. Series II of the 301 features the dual tweeters that sat away from the cab and fired in two different directions. The woofer dust cap has a flat area on the apex.

I think this is a 301 but am not sure because I do not see the plastic vane. Also the 301's I've seen do not have their grills held on by velcro. But again, that could be a modification to the original like the missing vane. The Grills do look right just the fastener is wrong. Good Luck.

Defenitly not 301's, has to be a copy cat or home built...I take it their is nothing on the back to I.D it either?

The earliest 301's AFAIK had a single tweeter and the vane. Some later ones had two tweeters. I thought that the 201 was a smaller speaker with a smaller woofer (most likely 6.5").

The 301's (at least the early ones) are not bad sounding speakers.

I am getting more confused.

I am away on a seminar so I can't open up the speaker yet. I'll do so when I get home. I will see Bose company markings on the drivers won't I if these are Bose speakers?
