What the heck is this driver

[grumpy]

Trying to figure out what brand and what the heck these drivers are used in. They are 4.5 inches edge to edge. Any ideas ?

[Smash]

looks like something from a cheap cd player or micro-system

Looks like a Merrill fullranger to me. DCA 4 I believe.

Great little driver IMO. I have a single and always wanted to buy a pair, but never did. I believe the guy that was doing them passed away.

Thats them Exactly. Thanks a ton. I knew I could count on you folks !

[ejfud]

No problem.

[stickman]

It seems the DIY folks in Malaysia bought the rights to this driver and have made improvements by using a cast frame to replace the stamped metal basket. I'm sure the close resemblance to Fostex drivers was purely intentional! (lol)

[RayW]

Looks like a nice little driver, G!

[grumpy]

So are they still making them ?

[ejfud]

In that form, no.

Diyparadise bought the rights to the driver and has done a little tweaking to them and sells their own version.

The basket and cone does share a strong resemblance to my Fostex Sigma drivers.

[audiozaz]

Looks like a fun little fullrange, have fun!

I like the look of those drivers. Build some of these to put 'em in - http://www.frugel-horn.com/. I have some Frazier 4" full rangers I need to do something with.

[budgetaudio6]

cool little driver! What do you plan on using it with?

[grumpy]

Sadly no current plans.

[imready]

Would make some great computer speakers! First thing that came to my mind anyhow.

[ejfud]

It's a great little driver. Has a tone that was very nice to my ears.

[grumpy]

Ok now what the heck is this one, Best I can make out is the 07241C number on the back

[ejfud]

That would be the Merrill DCA 5.5. Another nice driver. Works great as a midrange too.

Dang Grumpy you're pulling out some nice fullrange drivers.

More finds in a box. Can you point me to any info like the last ? Really appreciate your help. Thanks !

This driver did not get the run that the 4" did, but a good driver. The place selling the Merrills today also updated this driver a little bit.
