whats the best sounding "small" speaker you've ever heard

The new Acora MRB monitors were stupidly impressive at Capital Audio Fest.

We had lots of fun, occasionally fooling people into thinking the bigger Acora VRCs were playing- when we were actually playing the tiny (by comparison) MRBs. :D

$7990 for a pair certainly isn't cheap- but when it comes at that price, with Accuton ceramic drivers and finely-finished stone cabinets- it's a pretty astonishing value, compared to most speakers in that price range.

Gordon.

A pair of ELAC BS-243 with hexacomb woofer sure sounded good when I heard them a few years ago -- like fresh air was flowing out of them.

That said, I'm presently really liking my Hegeman Model 1 floorstanders driven by a Hegeman pre-amp and Berning EA-230 tube amp.

The Bose don't bother me - I just need to know how you got a sub behind your fridge!

This is another tiny sub that’s easy to place and is surprisingly powerful/musical at roughly 9” x 7” x 2.75”. It needs a 12v power supply and to be bolted to a surface or it will flop around despite being pretty heavy.

Tiny sub (underseat car sub that can be used in small rooms with now room for a regular sub): https://a.co/d/0k7zfSu

I mean if we're talking small the Canton Plus S all day. They are like that little guy with Napoleon syndrome very willing and can kick the a** of many speakers much much bigger then them. They go down pretty damn low for their size too. Just incredible little speakers.

I agree. Even better with the matching passive sub.

Not sure how small is small. But Canton karat 200, ADS L520, and MB Quart, are all considered bookshelf speakers.

Don`t have a lot of exposure to quality small bookshelf speakers, but my B-I-L`s pair of purchased new either in the late seventies ~early eighties: Infinity Infitesimal with the Watkin woofer, & EMIT tweeter sound excellent, and only need a quality 15" active subwoofer to sound full range octaves superb complete, from a full range of music genre, IMO/E !

My 1991 purchased for living room`s center channel duty (same tweeter/midrange of the Mc. main line array XRT-22s, in use at the time) Mc. XR-1 bookshelf speakers are a good second runner up to the Infinities.

I have always been a fan of the Tannoy PBM 6.5 in a restored and recapped state (easy to do). These under $100 speakers just sound right, and improve with better electronics. I like them with all kinds of music.

Back in the early 80's, little ADC pyramid looking things at a Boston audio show in the Commonwealth Pier. Was coming home with a new Pioneer cassette deck, so could not buy a pair of them too :dunno: Never seen them in the wild for sale used.
