I tell myself I should sell it to help pay for the upgrade, then go and add it to the collection filling up the storage room. :nono:
I would say I'm just kidding, but I have done that before. Still, I also DO sell some gear, to gain both liquidity and space for new acquisitions. Over time I try to keep only the gear that "grows" on me and which I like the most, after I've had a chance to live with it and listen to it. Lately, as I've learned more about market values, I've even started buying a few pieces just to "flip" for quick profit, with the specific intention of building up an "upgrade fund".
I think one's aims and tastes in this hobby evolve and change over time. I know mine are almost constantly evolving. I've toyed with the idea (suggested in a recent thread) of selling nearly all of my gear and pooling the money thus gained, to purchase just one
really good system , limiting myself to ONE good system thereafter, but I haven't done it, and probably won't for quite some time. I enjoy the "hunting" and "trying out" and "saving" the various brands and models too much, for now. Maybe later I will grow tired of it and just want to sit back and enjoy listening to music. Then I'll sell the "excess" and do just that... but not now.
I wouldn't mind giving some gear away to get some appreciative younger people started with vintage gear, but I haven't run across any likely recipients yet.
