When you just want a good burger.

You want a good sub go to Penn Station. Fantastic fries and the service is great. Really good thick chocolate chip cookies. Son told me about it and it's my go to sub shop now.

In Lexington there's a very good steakhouse Malones. You pay for it though. I'll stop-in just to get a cup of coffee and the best bread pudding I've ever had. Some crisp edges to the bread, carmel, vanilla ice cream. Never seen it like they do it anywhere else. It's worth every penny. When my youngest and his wife came we went for lunch and and ordered one to share for desert. The waiter must have pulled some strings because there was no way it was normally that big. The looks on our faces when we took our first bites said it all. The waiter was in his fifties and from how smooth and refined he was he had done that all his life. My god wish I had been that good when waiting tables at a high in steakhouse. Knowing I'll stop in sometime this week for a cup and bread pudding. Oh and the waiter got a 60 dollar tip. He was impressive.

The nearby Whataburger boarded up shortly around Covid-19, surprisingly for whatever reason, as every time I was in that area prior, where it was located from opening to closing, there was always a good amount of cars in the parking lot and cars lined up in the drive through lane ever since they opened up !
Sadly I never had an opportunity to try their hamburgers, though quite a few of my friends had, and all spoke highly of their hamburger`s quality, I guess that is just as well, as I would have gotten into the habit of getting my occasional hamburger satisfaction and they would have not been able to provide my infrequent hamburger fixes desire !

Moot point for me now, as nothing like carefully selected quality controlled ingredients, well prepared homemade hamburgers, if one has the time, & desired effort.
Mine are perfectly cooked on my medium sized Pinni Press by a woman who really, really likes to cook, and is an excellent cook across the board, as I`m so fortunate to be blessed with.

My wife made some Bacon-Mushroom-Swiss burgers in a cast iron skillet Friday night... Nirvana !

That's the reason we like spending so much time there. Every facet of a meal is to be enjoyed. From the neighborhood bistro to the fanciest dining establishment it is a very similar attitude towards having a most enjoyable experience/meal.

It is the same in Italy as long as you stay away from the tourist spots...

That was the go to for the late nights on the weekends back in the day. Had a Whataburger last year in Louisiana while I was traveling to Florida. I'm not sure if it was just the location, but I was very disappointed. You're probably not missing out on anything.

A place called Dabney's in Bloomington Illinois had buffalo burgers. Only lasted a couple years which is too bad because their buffalo burgers were really good.

If anyone is a familiar with the scene in Good Will Hunting where Will & Skylar are on a date eating burgers that place was called The Tasty which was this little old school joint in the middle of Harvard Square.

They were doing a version of the smash burger before they became a thing and they were oustanding

Why is it that bars have the best burgers ?

We have so many fast food burger places within a few miles of our house, BK, Five guys, Freddys, McDonald’s, Whataburger, Chester’s, Burger Boy and a Sonic Drive in. But I still really like the burgers from the bars, even though I don’t drink. Lol.

I'm not sure either - I think part of it might be that they concentrate on a few menu items and are good at them. I'll take a bar burger over any fast food style burger any day.

But, overall, I just don't eat red meat for the most part. I have maybe 5 to 8 burgers a year, and no steaks or anything of that nature at all. In the last 10 years I have pretty much eliminated fast food from my diet - although I will admit I do appreciate Dunkin' every so often, so not entirely. But it takes a few days of recovery to get back to normal after that experience, so I don't have to worry about doing that too often. Junk food really has an immediate negative impact on me.

Since moving to my current location, I’ve been trying the local (fast food) burger joints.

Five Guys is top dog (so far), but horribly expensive. BK bangs out a pretty good burger but the service was horrible and pricing could be better. Tried Whataburger based on wifey’s cherished memories but they were really terrible - maybe will try them again as it could be a QC issue. Haven’t tried any bar burgers yet.

Back in Orlando, I wanted to try a place that my wife objected to called Burger Bitch but didn’t manage to try before leaving town! Steak ‘n Shake took a down turn then rocketed back up.

Way back when in Portland OR, there was Stanich’s bar & grill that made *incredible* burgers. Most McMenamins bars served up pricey but excellent burgers coupled with fresh local brews; you needed a crane to get through the fries (gotta go there next time I can visit).

EVERYTHING is too expensive nowadays, especially in the last year or two (ahem).
