That is becoming more common to have a "lettuce wrapped" option in my territory for the more spensive places.

I honestly think it's the best fast food burger, at the lowest price, with the best service. The staff are ridiculously friendly, in a very old-fashioned sort of way -- walking into In n' Out is kind of like stepping onto the set of Leave it to Beaver or something

For those of you saying positive things about Five Guys, I'm now questioning every post you've ever made
I never thought Five Guy's burgers were even a little bit good -- just bland to me -- and expensive -- it's cheaper to get lobster at La Bernardin
Granted, it takes several strong people to drag me away from that unlimited peanut barrel, but I just never even liked their burgers even a little bit.
Also, at 5 Guys, it's just a plain burger by default -- you need to be the "chef" and pick the ingredients to make it good. This is very different from most burger places. At In n' Out, for example, you can just order a burger and it's going to be perfect as is (you can still customize it, but it kind of has a magic formula with the default ingredients).

I can't. My only advise is to use both hands to turn it on it's side. Then you're committed to the experience of finishing it
We just went to Steak N Shake a few days back. Burgers were very nice and priced reasonably. The local one has undergone some changes. No waitress all touch screen and serve yourself. Menu cut down, trimmed significantly from the good old days.
We are getting a Freddy's soon. Look for it to cut into the hamburger milkshake crowd big time. Every Freddy's we have been to was inexpensive, clean, friendly and good eats.

I brought home a new blackstone griddle last week and wow the burgers that can make. Never knew a simple burger on a griddle could taste that good. Next on the list are smashburgers.
Just what is a "smashburger"?
The meat is smashed as it is cooking. Cooks through, but it's not dry or chewy.
My favorite burger joint growing up was White Castle. We'd leave the disco and buy 5 (or more) of their little square burgers (sliders?) for about a buck and change.
I just took a look at their menu and they have a combo, two burgers. mozzarella sticks and a drink for $7.

I love that place. We took four sons on a USA holiday in about 2017; once they had been to In'n'Out once they just wanted to keep going back. Even my vegetarian wife was happy with the burger made without the meat in it, the ingredients were that fresh. I bought the 70th anniversary T-shirt and still wear it.In n' Out for the win!!

I haven't check prices lately because they are only on the West Cost -- so I can only go when traveling -- but about 10 years ago I was ordering burgers for a large group in Las Vegas -- I think burgers were $1.85 each at the time -- so 10 burgers was something like $20 inb total!
They are so good that I wouldn't care if they cost more -- but high quality at low cost is impossible to beat.The hot tip is to get their hot peppers (available on request, each comes in an individual sealed bag). After a lot of searching, I found identical peppers at Shoprite -- I think they are called chili peppers on the bottle -- but they are yellow and sold in their bottled pepper/pickle section.
Those days are long gone! Even fries at In-N-Out are $2.

No fast food chains. We only eat at locally owned restaurants. As for a burger, the Sierra Nevada brewery here makes a good burger and fries that are nice and crispy. Neither of us likes soggy fries.

Not a burger, but a steak
sandwich. Niece made ciabatta, and it is perfect for this.
Pretty simple, lettuce, tomato, onion, slice of cheese if you like, tenderised momo (thigh?) steak (80-90~ish grams) which is already pretty tender, bacon, sauces to taste - I use a steak sauce and 1000 Island Dressing, and a flick of olive oil instead of butter.
That was last nights dinner, and I'm still thinking about it.

Know something that surprised the hell out of me? A few weeks ago- I was in a huge hurry, trying to get home, and just had to get something quick to eat, where I stopped for gas- a Racetrac station.
They had a bacon double cheeseburger in their "grab and go" section- so I grabbed one, just as a default something to eat quickly. As I was checking out, the counter person said "Man, those things are surprisingly GOOD".
He wasn't lying. It's no gourmet burger- but it was FAR better than McDonalds, Wendys, BK or other usual fare.
I will say- it DID NOT suck.

I checked AI out of curiosity -- if it's correct, In n' Out singles range from $3.50 to $4.00 each depending on location. On one hand, that's double or more what I paid 10+ years ago. On the other hand it's significantly less than the $8 I paid for a McDonald's spicy chicken sandwich last week as a last resort, being the only place open at a rest stop (no drinks/fries -- just the sandwich). In n' Out still seems to be very good value for (what I assume is still) very good quality, even if it isn't the screaming bargain it was a decade plus ago.
