Which Jefferson? Airplane or Starship?

From my perspective, once Mickey Thomas assumed lead vocals in 1979, it was all over for this once great band. What a shame how they degenerated into the pop-schlock that dominated the 80s: "We Built This City" is simply a putrid song. As to the poster's question, I would give a slight nod to the early/mid-70s JS over the late 60s JA; "Dragonfly" remains my favorite of the group's LPs.

I had no idea he was in the Airplane!

Guess I'll pull out the only Record of them I've found so far.
I picked up this album at a thrift but never even gave it a listen out of apathy for the band.....

Early Airplane for me. They kinda lost me after Bark (Barf). I love the first few folk/psych lp's. Starship (for me at least) was a completely different animal- Corporate Rock at it's worst.

I think I'm gonna pull "Volunteers" out for a nice LOUD spin. "UP AGAINST THE WALL MO FO'S"!!! :D

The Jefferson Airplane for me,not to mention that people like Crosby,Garcia,Nash and many others sat in on alot of these early recordings,kind of like a Music communal thing.

Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch is about a half hour from my house. Nice place to watch a show.
 
Another vote for Airplane.

BUT...

My favorite of all is still "Dragonfly".

"There is no color in the king
And he's softer than a queen
Confusion reigns..."

Relevant then, relevant now...
 
I like both. I still remember buying Winds of Change in the army PX in Pusan Korea back in the winter/ 82. Loved it. Grace Slick was on a roll and never sounded better to me.

I discovered Roy BookBinder's music few years back which put me on the trail of Jorma and of course I then heard about the Ranch.

WOW....
 
I love White Rabbit, and Somebody to Love, but Jefferson Starship is far superior. Not only where they my first concert (Modern Times 1981), but JS had WAY more good songs, Miracles, Runaway, Count On Me, Find Your Way Back, Jane, Freedom At Point Zero, Stranger, Save Your Love, Rock Music, Ride The Tiger, Cruisin', Winds Of Change, Be My Lady...and I'm sure few I'm forgetting.

Damn, I remember seeing Jefferson starship at Radio City Music Hall back in the late 70's. My friend and I arrived early and we sat sixth row center. Great show! As to my favorite(s), Dragonfly is an awesome album, but my #1 of that group is Thirty Seconds Over Winterland. Jorma and Jack had seen Cream and were blown away by the extended jams that Clapton, Bruce and Baker produced live. Thirty Seconds was the logical progression for J.A. in their minds, but of course, the bands days were numbered. Whatta shame!

Luv Thirty Seconds Over Winterland.
Can listen to that LP over & over again all day long.
 
I favor Airplane but saw Starship at least 5 times. Great concert band.

But there's nothing like Jorma, Jack and the guys. Airplane was super group. Starship better than most at their time.
 
I like both, but that's not why I'm reviving a necro-thread - I just don't know where else to ask this:

I don't have "Bark", but one of my faves on the revue album "Flight Log" is from there: "Pretty As You Feel". Who is doing the muscular bass SINGING on that number?
