Which tube preamp kit to build? Elekit TU-8500 VS Bottlehead Moreplay

If you want a tube phono go with the Elekit TU-8550. It's a better preamp than the other two and it has more connection options.

It would be my first build. So I am looking for some easy kit first and down the road maybe the TU-8550.

And can make the build less expensive with just a top plate instead of a full enclosure.
All the gear I build uses metal enclosures, so I understand exactly what you're saying. However, it would add very little cost to route the rear wood panel and fit it with a small metal plate drilled for connectors. I really like the Bottlehead approach, but this would probably make their gear attractive to a larger audience with little additional effort. Just my 2¢.

It's also easy enough to add your connections to a rear wooden panel.
I've used forstner bits to relieve the back of the rear wood panel if needed to be able to mount speaker, power, fuse holders, etc. to the rear wood panel.
But to do it right you do need some tools like a drill or drill press, and a jig saw.

They're probably trying to keep costs down, what with all these cheap preamps coming from China. More parts and routing out the rear wood panel just adds more manufacturing cost, which they would have to pass along to the customer.
