Who loves burgers!

There was a mom & pop place on 291 (across from Textile Hall, er, I guess they're calling the Exposition Center now) in Greenville, SC in the 60's that served some of the best burgers I ever ate. Those places are becoming harder to find. The building is gone now.

There's a little hole-in-the-wall joint in Houston's 4th Ward called Lankford Grocery. Their Grim Burger has macaroni & cheese, bacon, jalapenos and a fried egg. Best burger I've had to date.

Back in the '70s there was a Ruby Tuesdays in Knoxville Tennessee. I think the chain started in Knoxville. Anyway this one was across from the UT campus just off the main drag, in an converted house.

Back then the burgers were served on an English muffin and at this location they would play entire album sides. I was up there on a regular basis on a project and it was a favorite place to go.

Yes, the first Ruby Tuesdays was in Knoxville just off of "the strip" and that is the one you are describing. There are about 5 national chains that started here.

I remember a place not too far from Portland OR that had a multi-layered, two patty hamburger that included a fried egg. Can't remember the name but it was worth the trip.

Many years ago, there was a Ruby Tuesdays in Chickasaw Oaks Mall in Memphis. Great atmosphere and great food.
It's long gone, but the name lives on in the form of chain restaurants that while good, aren't up to par with the original.

I like burgers..

We're supposed to be having Bison Burgers this weekend if I end up feeling better.. Cooked over lump charcoal...

My wife buys ground bison at a market here in DC.. damn good stuff!!!!! Takes a burger to a completely different level..

whats not to love about the burger!, its a whole steak dinner on a bun.
I was introduced to the 'mexican' avacodo burger in Califonia years ago and its still my favorite burger.
Though Iam still partial to a sauteed onion and swiss burger in the 1/2 pd, version of course.

Just placed my online order with 5 Guys. I am waiting for the confirm and I'll be walking over to pick up lunch for some guys on the desk. Best of the few chains I have tried, but very few can compare with homemade.

Just outside Buffalo is a pub called Grover's. The building used to be President Grover Cleveland's hunting cabin. They have amazing 10-12 oz burgers. The place was well known locally, but recently Diners, Drive ins and Dives did a segment there and now the line is always out the door.

We have one here, the burgers are pretty good, with a unique texture. Very similar to the "Fridays" chain, but also quite different...I perfer Ruby tuesdays. As with any chain, there are good and bad, I think ours is pretty good.

Bison burgers are interesting, very similar to normal beef, but with something slightly off. It's worth a shot if you can find a place that serves it:yes:

Oh, and i'll echo Finnbow (page 1), 5 guys is great, but a little greasy, not insane amounts, but a bit more than usual. Taste great though.

Love a good burger. When I have the hanker for something really nice I just go up and buy a piece of chuck and maybe another cut to blend in, then chop it up in my food processor for some "fresh ground" meat. Grill to medium....yummy!!

The Nook in St. Paul has a good burger. I think they were on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives a year or two back.

I forgot about In and Out......they are good too. Secret menu and all...

Never heard of In and Out.....sounds like their specialty should be wieners rather than burgers.

I tried Red Robin's at the mall last night. The prices seemed high, $8.99 for macaroni and cheese and a salad! Soon, I saw a person in a bird costume walking around bothering diners, stopping at each table and thought, "we'll never come here again". Then I saw the bionic busboy. This kid almost made it worth the visit. He moved so fast, it felt like I was watching a movie that was speeded up. His hands were like a blur.

The food? Ok, but not worth the prices by half.

mmm.. bison ribs.. Bet they would look like that slab they plop on Fred Flintstone's car in the intro..

Bison is really good.. Very rich and very lean.. It doesn't taste anything like beef at all to me.. just a super RICHLY flavored meat... No real wild taste, but you know the first bite you're not eating beef...

You can always go to Ted's Montana Grill if you want to try some and can't find it at the store... http://www.tedsmontanagrill.com/

Blimpy Burgers in Ann Arbor was on that show a year or two ago. Been to it a few times, including the morning after my wife and I got married (we spent the night in AA on our way to our honeymoon destination).

It was a great brunch.

The Hunter House in downtown Birmingham, MI also makes great sliders, but you have to go about two miles south on Woodward to get what are, arguably, the best burgers in the Detroit area at the Red Coat tavern. Quite good... though not as good as my home-made ones (see my post above for my recipe).

I haven't had it in several years, and even then, perhaps it was blended with beef:dunno:. I think we have a montana grill in town, i'll have to go there this weekend and try it out. I do recall it tasting a bit different, though I thought it was more texturely different...eh, i'll get another and see how it is (need to find some rattlesnake around here as well:D)

I miss What-a-Burger from when I was a kid.. I bet it's not the same any more, and we don't have any around here to find out..
